i don't know if there is already a thread on this, but i wanted to know what men, both gay and straight, think about shaving arm pits. I am 18 and bisexual and a pretty hairy guy already and every now and then i see guys on porn sites with shaved pits. is it common? and do they do it only cause its more hygienic?

How is it more hygienic?? WTF?

Madison Avenue has really done a number on the psyche of the American consumer. Disinfecting wipes for your counter that are counterproductive in that they help breed the superburgs (like MERSA) that will be the next scourge on humanity. Body hair is not dirty.

Yes, if you want to increase the sales of razors and shaving cream and cream to sooth the irritation afterwards, and powders to keep the skin from rubbing together since you removed the dry lubricant of the hair, then yes shave. Otherwise.....

NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!

As my gf has pointed out, gay and bi men usually shave and trim themselves bald. Actual straight guys for the most part are the ones that stay natural. She says she would never give a guy with shaved pits and bush, chest, etc the time of day as her gfs wouldnt either. They say its too much like being with a woman, men should have hair and they dont want a guy that is more into themselves then the women they are supposed to be with. As someone said earlier to look at the gym at the guys lifting to see. My buddies and i have noticed that the ones that have bald pits are the gay guys and the guys with hairy pits are straight. Some do trim but for the most part they are natural.

You and your girlfriend are tragically misinformed. I know a large number of gay men who would never consider shaving anything below the neck nor even wear deodorant if they can help it.

You can pretty much count me in that group, though I'm pretty laissez faire on what other people do with their body hair.

Interesting that some guys in this thread use the word "clean" as a synonym for "shaved."

Weird!

Don't be bodyphobic, people! Body hair is a secondary sexual characteristic, like breasts on women. Would removing their breasts make them more feminine? NO! By the same token, removing body hair doesn't make a guy more masculine looking. Quite the contrary, IMHO. I agree with Jason Els and Strocketeer -- It separates the men from the boys, the girls from the guys, and the hot macho dudes from the sissies.

well for me, i believe its a personal decision, if a guy wants to shave then he should, and if he doesn't so be it. i prefer there to b clean shaved, coming from a family that's clean shaved i take off all my armpit hair. i feel very comfortable without them. as for my pubes i tried allowing the hairs to grow n it didn't seem nice to look at, plus my girl loves the place hairless so i do that to make her smile.

My boyfriend says the same thing. He works out frequently and he feels his anti-perspirant works better when he shaves his armpits.

I agree.

I don't shave, but will occasionally trim down my armpit hair. That gets the deoderant closer to the skin, making it more effective. It also reduces odor. Most body odor is caused by bacteria that like to live in dark, moist places (which is why shoes also often stink) So for me it's a comofort thing.

Well, all of my ex girlfriends prefered it shaved.
Therefore I shave everything except legs and arms. And the "...more into themselves..." is utter crap.
And if only gay men shave I wonder that all of the men at my gym must be gay then.

I agree. There are some very straight men with shaved pits, pubes everything at my gym. I don't get how removing body hair makes a person gay????

Exactly. My body is more smooth than hairly (Obivously) but I have really come to appreciate the hair that I can actually grow. I used to shave my pubes and pits -- no longer. I trim my pits about 3 times a year as tend to chafe when the hair gets extremely long.

I wear unscented deodorant to work and no deodorant at all when I am not working. I have many friends who have not worn deodorant in years and more that have switched to that rock that controls perspiration naturally.

Interesting that some guys in this thread use the word "clean" as a synonym for "shaved."
Right? And then are no the same in the least. Smooth does not mean hygienic.

I concur and will add that is especially true of facial hair. Older men with clean faces look like older men trying (and failing) to look young.

I know a guy who shaves his body hair to show off his muscles. I told him-- you know what, when we can see you muscles and you are covered in fur, that means you are even bigger!

I shave my pits. And I agree with the other posters that think this makes deodorant work better - could be physiological.

If I recall correctly, hair can trap moisture/dirt.

So if you don't wash them, unshaved pits can be stinky indeed >.<

O_O You can wash your armpits!?!?

LOL indeed...

Even if I was in the middle of the jungle during a Scouts camp, it was always the hair, pits, and crotch that got washed carefully...

Dandruff/BO/stinky crotch are my top priorities for elimination, hahaha :)

The rest of my body is hairless relatively, so less smell tends to linger.

I'm not into the whole manscaping bit, but there's a guy I work with who always wears short sleeves and puts his arms behind his head when in his chair, eating, or chatting with others and his pits are the hairiest thing I ever did see. Long story short I trim, or manscape and see nothing wrong with it.
