"Mine! Mine! Mine! Mine! Mine!" When we can get past that childish reflex response, perhaps we can have an honest, serious discussion about the economic state of affairs in this country.
Seriously? My position is "they should get to keep whats theirs" and you're calling me greedy?

On top of that: your position is "if they have a lot, I'm taking a lot, its MINE!" but you don't see yourself as the least bit greedy. Socialism is premised entirely on greed; taking the financial resources of someone else.

I'll accept that. Call taxation a contribution to the greater good.
If Democrats actually helped people (other than their friends, Solyndria) it would be a different story. But they're just taking money from rich people because:

1) They're far too lazy to earn it.
2) They're so jealous their faces turn red (thus Reds)
3) They have nothing but hate in their heart because of #2.

That is the Democrat platform, flat out. "Helping" people isn't on that list.

So, if these business men/women are so greedy, why aren't they donating to the Republican party, that allegedly is just as greedy as they are?

When we all believed rich people donated to the Republicans it was so they could get more money, accumulate more wealth, keep down the workers, screw the middle class. Now that we know they donate very heavily, and sometimes exclusively, to the Democrats we see NEW altruistic reasons.

I hope we can all see the partisanship I exposed with that post. Be ashamed, as well.

If theres six of us and one of you, I think that means we share. The law says you get to keep half, which is a damn sight more than you would have had if we had applied pure capitalism and taken the lot off you. Taken it because we were able to take it and you couldnt stop us. That is the essence of capitalism.

Socialism is premised entirely on greed; taking the financial resources of someone else.
Socialism is where the state takes your money. Capitalism is where private inviduals just take it directly.

Do we? From where I sit there is the US right wing party and then there is the US very right wing party.

'Socialism...greed'?? I guess that's for the still benighted out there who don't understand what the financial meltdown was all about and what caused it (hint: it wasn't socialism).

It's so clear every day the conservatives live in some alternate reality where up is down (is that where you got your name?), 2+2=5, right is left, war is peace where George Orwell and Any Rand are your prophets. Total fiction but alarmingly real in your complete fantasy world.

Capitalism is where private individuals just take it directly.

And they are to be admired and indeed worshiped for taking as much as they can.

Do we? From where I sit there is the US right wing party and then there is the US very right wing party.

Most Americans have no clue what right and left is anymore as the Democrats have been pulled so far to the right they look like Reagan Republicans in the 1980's. And the far right party known as Republicans are morphing into Libertarians.

upperdown, you are clearly uneducated and ignorant. so be it. as to socialism, it is not based on greed. it is based on establishing a minimum income for as many as possible who are not able to fully provide for themselves, including the elderly and disabled. that isnt right or far right or left. it is simply what the constitution says WE must do. and that is what Obama is doing. he is not right wing. he is clearly progressive; you only need to review his many accomplishments to see that.

So tyrany of the majority is fine. So long as you can redefine the word 'fair' take what you want, then you feel no shame for stealing?

The voluntary exchange being a fundamental tenant of Capitalism that socialist will never understand. Far better all should be either forced to 'give' or force to take.

The US is right wing? !?!? ! No. That is flat out silly.

Yes, a radical fantasy world where we reward the innovators, not those with the largest majority. A world where the government isn't entitled to your entire existence simply because you were born. Where freedom isn't just something you talk about to get elected.

Is Libya peace, or is that war?

you are clearly uneducated and ignorant. so be it.[\QUOTE] I'll call that a sophisticated introduction. One fitting of a socilist elite.

as to socialism, it is not based on greed.
yes it is. All Socialists talk about is how to get more money. They couldn't care less about anything else. When they asked Obama (the one everone liked, Candidate Obam) if he was going to raise the capital gains tax even though it will result in a net loss of tax revenue to the government and increase the burden on everyone in the country he said this: "I will look at raising the capital gains tax for the purposes of fairness." That is raw greed. GIMME GIMME GIMME GIMME!

it is based on establishing a minimum income for as many as possible who are not able to fully provide for themselves, including the elderly and disabled.
There is nothing wrong with this. There is something horribly wrong with your methods. Socialists are extremely 'generous' with other peoples money but as greedy as can be over their own. If you want to have this kind of system in place you pay for it. As it stands now our socialist government takes peoples ability to be self sustaining, through excessive taxation and regulation, then says they have to fix the problem by taking more. In case you didn't know *looks around* it isn't working.

that isnt right or far right or left. it is simply what the constitution says WE must do. and that is what Obama is doing. he is not right wing. he is clearly progressive; you only need to review his many accomplishments to see that.
The Constitution says we MUST have socialism? I would like to see your reference.

We're calling what Obama did "accomplishments" now? When did this happen?

Eating your own words already? Define 'reward'. Define 'greed'.

The reward should be defined by the individual.

Greed: a selfish and excessive desire for more of something (as money) than is needed.

For example: Obama wanted to give his friends at Solyndria one half billion dollars. To do this he went out to the tax payers and took it from them. We know that not one dollar was 'needed' and his desires were exclusively for his own interest (his major donor getting first position on the back of tax payers). He wanted more political support and was willing to screw all kinds of people in an unnecessary fraud to get it. Greed.

BBC News - Who, What, Why: How can an American pay extra tax?

Seems Y'all have a system to voluntarily d'oh n8, just no one has since 2005. "It's not a successful tax program." One of the quotes of the year :biggrin1:.

"Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee, who ran for president in 2008 and is now a chat show host on Fox News Channel, established the state's Tax Me More Fund in 2001 in a mocking swipe at Democratic lawmakers who called for tax increases to stave off spending cuts.

The fund ultimately raised $2,076.79, says Richard Weiss, director of the state's Department of Finance and Administration. The last collection was a $3 donation in January 2005.

"It's not a successful tax programme," Mr Weiss says, but, "it's still alive. We can always use the money."

The US Treasury has a similar program. Go figure, Buffett didn't donate.
