A Not-So-Guilty Pleasure

Frugal Fatigue, I like that and have definitely been experiencing it of late. How about the rest of you? Is anybody experiencing 'frugal fatigue?' :frown1:

I could write volumes on "frugal fatigue" right now, with what I've gone through for the past few years!

omg yesssss... i've been feeling more frugal than ever and i'm growing tired of it! being unemployed for the majority of 2009 has really hit me hard because i can no longer do the things i used to do *cries* :frown:

Me, too. I went from being solidly middle-class to having just temp jobs paying minimum wage to $12/hr at the very most (and the $12/hr. job is little projects that only last a couple of weeks).

I terribly miss doing the things I did when I had a steady job (the one that ended in 2005, that one due to budget cuts). I work when I can, and although I mostly have had temp jobs, I do manage to work most of the time (but not the entire year).

All my money goes to necessities. I haven't bought a new pair of shoes in a long time. Socks, however, are different. At my current job, I'm on my feet all day, and I seem to do better (with my feet not hurting as much) if I wear Thorlos or Smartwool socks - however, it takes me working 2+ hours now just to pay for ONE pair of those socks! My other "not so guilty pleasure" is food. Since I don't have money for discretionary things, I tend to spend on food. That could explain why I've gained 30 lbs. in the past 3 years! (Not to mention that in me, stress causes me to gain weight, and I've been under an extreme amount of stress since 2003. I lost my steady job in 2005, but in 2003 I had two different serious illnesses, one that I almost died from.)

As for when I get a decent job again and can buy shoes, I really don't buy designer shoes - they don't fit me anyway. The only designer that I know of who makes shoes in my size is Stuart Weitzman. ($300 shoes! cough cough... Yeah, I know Jimmy Choos and Manolos are even more expensive...!) I have wide feet and most of the cute shoes don't come in wide widths anyway. So I usually have the choice of uncomfortable too-narrow shoes that are cute, and shoes that fit me right but look like something an 80 year old grandmother might wear. :biggrin1: And yes, this irks me (when I have the money, that is) - I'm a fashionista with wide feet! (That said, I'd welcome the orthopedic shoes where I work now - I'm on my feet all day and comfort is THE most important thing. Fortunately, they also allow you to wear sneakers to work, and I have a good pair of sneakers I bought back in my power-walking days.)

hmmm very nice lines.

A friend once remarked that my foyer looked like the doorway of a mosque.

I just got a delicious red gym locker with shelves from Ikea to hold my daily shoes.

I take good care of shoes and they last a long time. I keep going back to old favorites like these seven year old Vakkos with Vero Cuoio soles. They will last forever.

I love your oxfords, VInce, I am an oxford fanatic! If only there were a way to connect you all with my Flickr page. It would scare you.

OMG! THose opera pumps are to die for! I have seen men with the pumps without the grosgrain bow but then they just arent opera pumps then, are they?

I love those shoes, sadly I only have an opportunity to wear them once or twice a year. I feel like I'm on cloud nine when dancing in them!

Ooo, I like! Are they Cole Haan?

Without the bow it's just a black flat and an odd looking one at that for a man. With the bow they are not girly, they are the epitome of masculine style and taste.

Perfect shoes...Let me see if I can state this briefly.
Shoes are totems of Disembodied Lust. They are candy for the eyes, poetry for the feet and the icing for your soul. They stand for everything you have ever wanted: glamour, success, a rapierlike wit, a date with the Sex God (ess) of your choice. Shoes hint that attaining these things are as easy as slipping them on your feet. They have a magic power to make you into something else.
People who understand shoes know all of this. They know that a life without the perfect footwear is a dull, shoddy expanse of gray days and fitful, sleepless nights. They know that the perfect shoes will give them the strength they need in life to go out and do what needs to be done.

Hope that helps!

Pure poetry! I totally relate 100%.

Avid collector here. I do not discriminate against shoes in anyway except for where I allow myself to wear them: house, garden, work, gym, out-and-about and bedroom. Happy or sad bank account. I have lots of shoes and love every, single pair no matter who made them. Skipping the shoe section has never even occured to me. What a horrible thought! We too have been hit by the recession, so I have a per pair dollar limit for now. This is not a good thing for a shoe addict :-(
