I notice a common sort of thinking on forums, where someone starts out with some insecurity, and then is just looking for someone to reinforce it. In every relationship, there will be things one partner might 'prefer' in general that the other doesn't have, but there are enough other good things there that they still couple up. I've dated plenty of girls who may 'prefer' a guy with a tattoo, a certain musical taste, etc., but I didn't run out and get inked up and only listen to their favourite bands.
Once the relationship grows stronger, those missing preferences move towards being totally unimportant. Eventually, if two people are close enough, what used to be a missing preferred trait is something the other would never change, since it's part of what makes the person they love who they are.
