I agree that it is not appropriate, but I also agree that if you're attracted to men, it's hard to ignore when you have them naked all around you.

A question to the guys only into women - if we lived in a society where men and women shared locker rooms and showered together (like on Battlestar Galactica!), can you honestly say that you would follow the etiquette of "eyes looking forward" and not be getting a bit turned on, even if you had three naked women lathering up their boobs and cooters in the showers across from you?

There's a difference between checking someone out and fucking them in the middle of a room full of other people. Yeah I've been checked out by guys in the gym before, and you're right buzzrider, I'd be horny if three women were taking a shower in front of me. It's ok to have certain feelings, but when these feelings involve sex you save it for later.

I get horny when I walk down the condom aisle, but I'm not going to start feeling up the female employee that walks by...

Control yourself. Doesn't matter if you're gay, straight whatever.

Ok, suppose now that you look up at the stall across from you and your naked female lusciousness is now fingering herself while making eye contact with you. What would you do? Walk over to her and get it on? I doubt it. Get wood and at least watch for a few seconds? Somewhat likely, no?

I guess that's the dilemma I've faced before. I go to 24hr. It's in a suburb of SF and is not at all a "gay" gym. It's not a rare occurence, however, that I've been "given a show" if you will by guys who are obviously not inhibited in their shower stall when nobody else is around. I've never had sex in a locker room shower, and don't think I ever could. But I can't say that I've never lingered for a short while to watch, and I've been a bit aroused myself. I'm definitely conflicted, thinking "This is NOT the place for this guy to be stroking himself. Walk away!" while my cock is thinking "Damn, don't walk away just yet! Look at that COCK!" I end up feeling guilty afterward for watching since I know I should not be encouraging that kind of behavior. But when it's been over two months since I've had sex and I'm so horny I'm about to explode, it's hard not to resist the temptation at times.

Maybe it is due to the fact that not everybody is comfortable with nudity rather then it being about gay/bi and physical attraction?

A lot of you endowed men here have said at times you have felt awkward in certain situations because of your size, so maybe some men feel awkward being in naked in a locker room for other reasons, weight, lack of endowment, body hair etc, etc

or modesty is a moral/faith issue for them.

There was a sport centre I used to use in West London which closed the pool, sports hall and changing rooms to the general public on a Sunday evening, at which point they became Muslim only. Supposedly it was something to do with them not wanting to be nude in front of non-Muslims. I don't know if that was a tenet of their faith, but I ain't got a problem with that. Each to their own.

GET A ROOM!! Sexual activity should be confined to PRIVATE AREAS. Public saunas, gyms, changing rooms, fitness centers are not the places where this type of activity needs to be taking place. There are young people working out and I don't believe they need to be exposed to this type of behavior.

If you find someone you are so excited about, then make some plans and meet somewhere in private. Leave the rest of us to work out and shower WITHOUT being forced to watch your sexual escapades.

It's not based on hygine; where were everybody's hands before they touch the sink? It's not to discourage sexually oriented behaviour either. It's basic sexualization of nudity. Why do they have a separate room for showers and changing? So people can be nude! Really, most folks would probably be more comfortable if the guy shaving at the sink were wearing a towel, but he's not doing anything wrong, esecially if he's comfortable. If other users don't want to see him in all his glory, they can look away. That said, lewd behavior is just that.

The gym I go to (Lifetime) seems to discourage nudity in the locker room and recenly had an announcement encouraging male members to wear towels at the sinks when shaving and in the steamroom and sauna. I suspect this is to discourage any gay or bi activity from going on in the locker rooms, activities I see nothing wrong with this as long it is between consenting adults.

Every gym I have ever used required shorts or towels in the steamroom and sauna for sanitary reasons.

There are gyms where gay/bi activity is very open, where guys can easily hook up and even get away with playing in the gang showers, sauna or steam room becayse these gyms are more adults only since no children go there.

But at Lifetime, since it is a family oriented gym, there are many preteen and teenage guys in the gym, especially after school lets out, but there are also those male parents who bring their little boys into the locker room because they don't want to use the family one, where they are suppose to go. So we older guys, who grew up when showers after gym class was required and got used to walking around naked with guys our own age are discouraged from doing this because the young parents who go to Lifetime with their children have to have it their way.

As for starting this thread - I was just curious to see how guys here would react to this question and I have been enjoying the comments.

As for joing Lifetime - the cost is high but no higher then the gym I had been attending. However, I get more for the money because they not only offer a pool, but have other activities that most gyms do not have and all under one room.

As for those who want to hook up etc. since it is open all hours of the day and night, I am sure there are times when things can go on because of the time of day/night and the fact there are no kids around.

At Lifetime Fitness the family locker rooms are for parents that have opposite sex children with them. When my husband and I both go to Lifetime Fitness he takes our son with him and I take our daughter. The family locker room only has 5 private changing room / showers in it. It is always crowded and you have to wait and take turns for the private changing rooms. It is a lot faster to used the regular locker rooms with same sex children.

Then don't look.

More seriously, I think a lot of this is down to location. The gyms I've attended have often been in busy cities or acknowledged gay neighboorhoods. It's been kind of understood (if unspoken) that such things go on. Certainly my old gym in Chelsea in New York was probably about 60% gay, and any straight guys who went there either knew about what went on and just looked the other way, or were there specifically because they knew they could get a no-strings blowjob and then go home to the wife.

But this was not a family location - it was business men and downtown workers. Believe it or not, most of The Gays do actually have some sense of propriety and wouldn't do anything inappropriate in front of children. We can tell when somebody might be receptive, and we can tell when it's wrong. We don't actually want to be arrested and thrown out of the gym and put on the sex offenders register and beaten to a pulp, thank you very much.

I guess we older guys will have to get used to being naked in the locker rooms with younger kids because the young parents don't want to wait to take their turns in the private changning rooms / shower in the family locker rooms and since they are choosing to use the other locker rooms they will have to accept our nakedness.

Not just Gays but Bi guys too have a sense of propriety. As I said in the previous post the problem at Lifetime is the young parents wnat to use the adult (male) locker rooms because they don't want to wait to use the facilities in the family one and that is what is creating the problem.

My family is nudist so we don't have a problem with nakedness.

I am kind of wondering if Lifetime Fitness (which is a corporation) sets the rules about encouraging the towels when shaving and in the steam room etc.....because we have been members of other health clubs before and I don't remember them being so strict as Lifetime. We were members of a YMCA up in Virginia Beach and people didn't do the towel dance there.

I am just saying that it might be your particular Lifetime's Rules, it may not be the young folks complaining about seeing nakedness. I mean, what do they expect, you are in a place where people are going to be changing clothes.

Me, as long as no one's offended, and everything is consensual and no minors are present, I don't care what goes on when I am not there.
