The gym I go to (Lifetime) seems to discourage nudity in the locker room and recenly had an announcement encouraging male members to wear towels at the sinks when shaving and in the steamroom and sauna. I suspect this is to discourage any gay or bi activity from going on in the locker rooms, activities I see nothing wrong with this as long it is between consenting adults.

Ya I would agree I think they are going to lose people . What good is a locker room if you can't change freely in it

Egocentrism raises it mornonic head again here. Whatever one's sexuality is a decent person expects some propriety in public life.
Who wants some creepy perv (good looking or not) stranger perving within inches of you in the locker room.

Towels shouldn't be required but sexual acts shouldn't be allowed. People should go to a bath house, not a gym, if that's what they're looking for.

Excuse me; I go to the bath house for the variety of videos playing...not sex.

Maybe I'm confused. I go to the gym to exercise, not to have sex.

Exercise? At a gym? Now, who would want to do a silly thing like that?

I never go tohe gym, I workout completely at home. I do think a problem with being naked in the locker room is kinda weird. Good thing I can be naked whenever I want in my room!

Yeah like Nick8 said, nudity is fine, but the sex is innapropriate due to it being a public place.

Discouraging nudity in the mens lockerroom is wrong, if you ask me.
But discouraging gay/bi actitivities in the mens lockerroom is very good. It's not normal to have any gay/bi activities in any lockerroom.

Guys (straight and gay) should just behave in the lockerroom. Just take a shower and change your clothes, instead of doing weird stuff you should do at home!!!

I'm as much of a cock watcher as the next guy, and the fantasy of some hot stud coming onto you in the locker/steam/whatever room is HOT, however...in most cases the actual act of anything sexual in a place that is shared by others is not appropriate.

Take something that offends you,,Now think about someone exposing you to that activity against your wishes. Not something I would want to be exposed to.

I'm not offended by sexual activity, but since others there may be, I won't force them to be exposed to it, no matter how hot it would be

What they said. The gym is for exercise, not for sex. Period. Take your sexual mess of any persuasion elsewhere. The nudity isn't a big deal in a locker room where people are changing, showering, etc., but this is neither a nude fashion parade nor the sexcapades.

Our Lifetime Fitness is pretty strict too, but I can kind of see why. At ours, when your kid turns 12 years old, you have to purchase them a membership like they are an adult. And they can use the premises without an adult. So, I am sure they don't want any sexual activity going on in the presence of 12 year olds. Here in Texas that is a felony, from what I understand. As far as the nudity, I don't have a problem with it. But I will admit that when I am at the gym with my children, we use the family locker room.

This seems really odd to me. I have to wonder if there is additional context missing related to management's suggestion that guys wear towels in various areas of the locker room. But, if the reason for this edict is as the OP suggests -- to discourage gay or bi activity -- I can't imagine wrapping a towel around any horny guy looking to engage in sexual activity at the gym is going to do much to stop him. That said, I agree with those who believe that this is inappropriate behavior for a gym locker room, especially if there are minors around.

I think people who do this in gym locker rooms, not bathhouse locker rooms, are really being jerks. It is *highly* inappropriate and disgusting. Do it at home. Do it in a bath house or a "gym" that is really a bath house. Don't do it in a real locker room. I belong to a Lifetime gym as well and they have that rule for the steam room but nowhere else. It must be a case-by-case thing. I've never seen anything like that going down, but if I did I'd probably tell them to take it elsewhere.

You can say it shouldn't be allowed as much you want - it's going to happen, nevertheless.

Now, I'm not saying that it's okay right out in the public areas like the locker room and the sinks. But behind a curtain in a shower cubicle or in the dark corner of the steam room - go for it.

Like I say, anything you try to do to stop it outright is futile and doomed to failure. Men will find a way to have sex regardless of any obstacles anyone puts in their way. But you can still be respectful about it and ensure that no-one who doesn't want to, or oughtn't to see it, doesn't.

Besides, some of the best sex and hottest guys I've ever had in my life were in the gym.
