I am very unhappy there. I work 4 days a week, 12 or 13 hours a day. I called out sick on Thursday, and dread going in tomorrow.

I am afraid to quit, but I think I should.

I do have money that I can live on from money that I saved before I moved out of my parents house (many moons ago). In fact I can (retire) bum around for one year when I do move to Florida.

Listen to the advice being given on this board. Do not quit until you have your next job lined up. Would hate to see you posting on this board in a year about how broke and unemployed you are.

What I want to do is move to Florida. I have an apartment and would have to give two months notice, but that is fine because it will take me two months (of not working) to get my shit together. Donate things and throw things away and set up a Uhaul trailer.

I am just not prepared to give notice in 10 days that I am leaving the apartment in two months.

86,000 people left our state last year because of the high cost of living and taxes. You have a chance to move. I say go for it. Do what your heart tells you.

Have you travelled to florida and spent a few days looking around? You certainly should. Maybe go once and go back in a little while after you've had a chance to consider what you saw.

I'm in the San Francisco Bay Area and have lived in Southern California. We see awestruck people all the time who move here because life seems great. Then they go thru panic when they find out they can't get a well paying job, can't afford an apartment, etc...

Go for your dream... but do it with some thought and preparation.

Granted, there are a lot of factors involved with a move like that. How old you are, what is your area of work you want to be in. Why do you really hate your current job? I think the stress of moving so far and the unknown would be compounded if you didnt have a job at all. I think you should start the looking process now. Get a recruiter down there, use Monster.com, or Careerbuilder.com and look for jobs. It depends if you have a degree and stuff like that. But I think that if its something you wanna do, make it happen. Live IS to short and u have to go for what u want. Just do it the right way so you dont overstress yourself.

You've gotten a lot of good advice Mem, get out, but have something lined up before you do. Staying when you know you hate your job is a sure way to end up fired. You start having attendance issues and even make stupid mistakes that will invoke managements ire.

There are much better jobs out there. I know, I found one.

The hours are horrible. I work 12 hours, leave at 5:30 A.M. and don't get home until 7 P.M. I have to be asleep by 9 to get enough sleep for the next day.

The pay is not good. My boss is a lazy pot head that does not want to do any advertising or anything to improve our working situation or pay. He is very disrespectful to all of his employees. Only talks to us to complain and yell at us.

how many burgers do you flip in an hour.....??? or are you on fries?

If your job is the reason behind your creating numerous pedestrian topics on a daily basis, then yes...by all means, please quit.
If you don't like his topics then just don't respond, or don't read them, or better yet HG, you could quit this place. See? These solutionary suggestions all offer an answer to your worries and woes.

Well, Mem, it goes this way- if you are sick to your stomach, losing sleep and anxious all the time then maybe leaving the job is an answer. However, why quit just yet? According to your own admission, you need to give two months notice before leaving your apartment so stay with the job another month to a month-and-a-half to accumulate more financial security.

As to the Florida move- I can see the allure of the warmer climate at this time of year; but what about in the hottest part of summer? How are you with hot and humid?

Now, moving on to the finances you have and the fact that you could laze around in Florida for a year without working- why risk it? Go there and get a job. Better yet, see if you can get a job before you move there. Similar to having an apartment or living arrangements prior to moving, it is always a good idea to try to have a work situation lined up, that way you can keep your savings safe for the future.

Best of luck and keep us updated as you proceed, we will be here as your emotional support if you need and/or desire.

2PM temps of selected cities in S. Florida:

WPB: 75
Ftl: 76
Miami: 77

It does get hot in the summer but being near the Atlantic holds the temps down to low/mid 90s most days. Temps above 98 are rare. The prevailing wind direction is from the east. It's usually 5-10 degrees hotter on the Gulf coast.

The humidity is simply awesome in August!

Mem, I've been in a job I didn't like so I empathize with your plight. But heed the advice of those who have said: line up a job first. The job market is tightening everywhere; it's not a good time to take a chance.

Thanks for the advice, for the time being I am going to stick with the job as long as I can. Some days are not so bad, today was an OK day at work.

Yes, I recently found out that it never gets into the 100's in south Florida. Here in NJ it is rare but ever few summers we get a day or two over 100.

Humidity does not bother me that much. The cold is worse for me. I have been in Florida several times in July and August and love it.
