I was thinking about this thread yesterday. I was in a bit of a $$ low point once and wondered the same thing.

You've mentioned that you would like to do POV stuff, but how would that really work? To get any sort of decent footage you can't film yourself - you would need at least another cameraman if not 2 or 3. And you'll have to edit it all together later.
But my real question is, what is your business plan for your completed films? Do you have a distribution outlet for them? They will cost you something to make, and you'll need to recoup that money at least - making more than your cost is the goal. Do you distribute them online? Or through video stores? Are they DVDs that can be rented/purchased? Who are your contacts for mass producing and distributing your work? Or, if online, who are your contacts who are going to direct their customers to the web site where you will have the ability to make money? After all, you could post your vids almost anywhere - but most places you post will result in exactly $0 back to you.
