Actually, I was talking to a friend the other day and I just tossed out the idea that at some point colonialism will become the big retro trend of the 21st century.

It makes a certain amount of sense if you think about it. We already know that war is good for business in many sectors of the economy. And in the "jobless economy" which Krugman and others suggest is coming, a massive occupation of Central/South America might be the best way of providing employment to millions of otherwise unneeded workers.

Plus, it could be presented as "Eco-colonialism" -- a necessary measure to save the earth.

I think Ecuador and Brazil are starting to make some positive direction as far as preserving the rainforest, I think it's actually an Asian country,Indonesia , that might be the worst culprit now as far as rainforest preservation. Not sure if it's China or the U.S. who's more to blame there, maybe both.

true. Plus there are so many S.Americans who come to America in the hopes of reaching success and a better life. The ones who dont want us there are drug dealers lol. I say we kick the drug dealers out (full on war most likely) and unite South America and North America. We could be a new super power. South America is poor but has great resources and we have the means to make things happen. Together both Americas would prosper off each other.

War destroys wealth, it never creates it.

We should just conquer South America, break the borders and share the beautiful land. We will become a race of super sexy Brazil bootys. :biggrin1:
Brazil - Geoff Muldaur - YouTube

An insane post to begin with, but to answer the OP's general "question", I'd suggest we pay more attention to S. America (speaking of economics) but that has nothing to do with being on a war footing versus them.

im not so sure war is a good idea.. that old presedent bush ran your economy into the ground hard and half the the USA seemed to have no idea. Recover from that.. THEN invade a super sexy country like brazil.
