But what do you really think is the likelihood that pics you post on one of literally millions, if not billions, of online forums will come to light to your loved ones or employers? What are the chances that out of 7 billion people, with all the niche little networks, you will be exposed as the pervert you are?

That is the paranoia that I speak of. Who have you pissed off so much that they're going to dedicate their lives to seeking out dirt about you online and exposing you to the world?

This is a tiny, miniscule, irrelevant little private corner of the internet. It's not e.g. twitter.
How many teachers got caught posting inappropriate pictures online? Quite a few. Does that answer your question? Why be a moron and take the risk? Especially if you got nothing, absolutely nothing to gain by posting your face online.
Oh yeah, and i can assure you, that students DO a search for their mentors and teachers online. And i can assure you that LPSG turned up quite a few times when I searched for non-porn related stuff on google, so it's neither tiny nor miniscule. Oh btw, LPSG is not private, it is 100% public.

The funny thing is, you are the one calling people pervert for being here :joy: I don't think people are perverts for being here.

Omg, you totally fail at grasping any sense of irony, don't you? I'm not calling you a pervert; your perception of how you'd be perceived by "the normal world" is that of a pervert. In much of the English spoken western world, an enjoyment of sex is seen as perversion. This is a criticism I level at loads of cultures. It's religion's fault for shaming humanity for its enjoyment of sex.

Number of teachers exposed vs the total number of teachers; what's the ratio?

My face has been visible here more often than not. I don't care to verify, nor to have it as my avatar, but you can find it. If that becomes a problem for me, I won't show anymore, just like the last time I wanted more privacy. I don't think it has to be fear versus bravery. It's a practical matter.
Plus one
My face is available only to a select few here. I also have been in a public leadership role that would inhibit sharing too much personal info. But I'm comfortable showing face to those here I've gotten to know on a more personal level.

And you totally fail at grasping the fact that the world extends beyond what you can see, and that people have different lives, within different cultures than yours. You call an entire nation "prudish", but I wonder how much time you've spent within its borders.

Haha. That's a major and entirely incorrect assumption you've made about me there.

I lived in the Netherlands for 3.5 years.
I lived in the USA for 3.5 years.
I lived in Myanmar for 2 years.
I lived in Pakistan for 2 years.

And I've travelled extensively elsewhere, getting to know local people and asking questions about the culture of each country. I have friends who live in every corner of the world.

I'm far from culturally isolated.

Dude, you fail to understand that YOU are the fucking only one talking about shame and such things. You fail to recognize there are true reasons out there why people don't post their face.

Number of teachers exposed vs the total number of teachers; what's the ratio?
How in hell would that matter?
You're ignorant, I finally get it.

Opinion | Are Americans Still Puritan?

Here's a scientific study that supports my hypotheses. Regardless of the religious affiliation of present day citizens, their modern day culture is still largely affected by its rigid morality and puritanical history.

Conversely, less religious cultures such as those of northern Europe, are much less prudish about nudity and sexuality.

It's interesting to note how incensed and vitriolic some of the posters here have been, over what is a fairly insignificant debate. How quickly some have resorted to name calling.

This is an interesting piece dissecting America's relationship between violence and sexual repression.
Aggression and sexual repression in America

Happens when all you do is push your agenda instead of actually answering questions of other posters. It's like talking to a brick wall. The USA is prude. We get it. Now start acknowledging that there are tons of other reasons and that not everyone who doesn't want to provide pictures of her/his face is a prude or ashamed.
And I stand by my statement that you are ignorant if you think it matters how many teachers got exposed relatively speaking. And not only teachers.

The problem I have is that facial recognition technology is racing ahead. What happens if we wake up one morning and people can google our face just as easily as they can google our name? Some very nervous people. Entirely possible imo.

I don’t know about you, but I consider this part of my sexual life, which I compartmentalize and keep away from public life. Hence as little face exposure as possible.

Also most people sign an agreement that says while working for X, whether they are in and out of the workplace, they reflect their employers, and I’m not getting fired because some prude stumbled upon my dick on the internet.

i think, if you don't want to post your face, DON'T. No need to explain yourself, or argue over it. We can all be civil, this thread has become stagnant with the same arguments from both parties. I would just love this thread to continue for what the OP meant it to be... post your face guys, or don't... but please, it's Monday, we don't need no bullshit :D... all i read was a bunch of adults bickering trying to be right. Both of you are right.

First, I made no assumption: I wrote "I wonder how much time you've spent within its borders". That assumes nothing. But you clearly haven't seen all of it. This is a huge and diverse country, with space for a lot of variations. Your writing here smacks far too closely of typical stereotype.

If you spent any of those three years in NYC, San Francisco (hell, nearly anywhere in California), Mt. Hope, PA, Colorado, Oregon, Seattle, etc etc...you wouldn't make those statements.

But regardless, protecting privacy has nothing to do with being a prude and everything to do with learning lessons about life. There are assholes among as many liberal minds as conservative, and it only takes one to ruin your life.

Oh, and sometimes it's about just being modest. Nobody needs to see me, and I don't need to be seen.

You would be surprised.
Life is full of funny little coincidences. It's also full of really nosey people.

@Nomadic The thing is, we're not all here for the same reason. I'm not even here for the same reason as when I joined.

You may well be here because you're a raging exhibitionist attention whore, and have designs on being the next Kim Kardashian, but I'm just here to stick my opinions on the internet. Don't need my face for that.

I'd also like to add that someone I went on a few dates with once found this site and my profile by googling the fuck out of my opinions after I discussed one of the thread topics with them. LPSG is not such a needle in a haystack as I thought it was.

Anyway, I think that your approach may work out well for you if you can manage not to be so far up yourself that you've alienated all the regulars by next week. You'll be famous by this time next year IF you can get people to like you. Good luck with it!

Please post your full name, address, date of birth, mothers maiden name, license number if applicable. There are 7 billion people in the world and most of them aren't victims of identity theft, so you should feel safe posting this information here, right?

My sexuality is my business, so if I want to keep it in some way private and public, that's my business. You can look at my pics, but expecting more than what I give you is unreasonable.

Blame culture and religion all you want, but for most people the reason that we don't show out faces on sites like this is the same reason that you won't post the information I asked you for above. Prove me wrong and don't be a prude about your personal information.
