Sick of unfair ratings!

Also, last night I had someone post about my Mary-Jane's photo I have in my album. Their response was "Every woman on this site owns a pair of these." Which at first, I was kind of like taken aback. I politely replied in my album comments to him though. It still irked me a bit about his comment, maybe he was trying to be nice? Maybe not? I'm not sure but I was still thinking about it an hour later. So I visited his gallery and his albums, watched his videos and then posted jokingly about "Every male on this site has a penis" or something retarded. I'm not really hurt by it, just confused as to why he felt the need to say that I'm not original. Which by the way wasn't my intent when I posted the picture. So, to get his goat this morning I posted a picture of me in my fancy roller skates in the same fashion I posted my Mary-Jane's. I bet you anything that almost every woman on this website doesn't own a pair of those! :tongue:

It's all in good fun. I mean no harm to what I say. Just being silly.

maybe he thought he could get you to post more personal pictures that way.
Maybe he has really observed similar shoes in some other galleries. I don't think tho that he meant to be mean or bad in any way.
I like the roller skates picture as a response, you handled that good.

I don't think bigotry is funny but i do think jokes ARE.
As a gay guy it annoys me when someone else uses the phrase 'that's so gay' to describe something that is not right but it does'nt offend me because not everything that is said is meant to be literally correct and in the case of a joke its not meant to be politically correct all the time either.
I save my offence for when something is clearly intended to be derogatory and settle for being annoyed when the joke is at MY expence (assuming of course that i fail to see the humour in it) because at some point i'm going to make a joke about somebody else based on an un-pc thing and then they are likely to do the same. If ManlyBannisters has never in her life made a joke about somebody else based on how they look or what they are then she is exceptionally PC, it does not make me or anyone else a bigot if we happen to be less PC.
And based on her reaction i would be inclined to believe that she is too hot-headed to be able to be so PC herself and is merely being irrational.
(especially because i did'nt say anything as an attack but as a means of cheering up the OP)

Then, as pedantic as it is, the now bolded part is wrong. Point 2 can only be right in conjunction with the bolded part if i was in fact having a laugh over a bigotted pov rather than an un-PC joke. Who knows why some people get off on being intentionally cruel? Within the anonymous cover that the internet provides, you're bound to come across all manner of nastiness and trolls: I've got a few stalker trolls who haunt me from site to site. Sometimes they follow me around and pounce on my posts; sometimes they leave nasty Visitor Messages on my homepage; sometimes they leave especially vile comments on my (off-site) blog.

Personally I draw a line between insults and threats. Insults are just opinions, and, like assholes, everyone's got one. Threats get reported and result in banning the perpetrator.

Such things are the price one pays for being open about one's life on the internet and over the years have become much more circumspect about how and where I voice my views or recount my experiences, especially those of a more provocative nature. It's ultimately up to you to decide at what point the rewards outweigh the hassles. The OP offers a unique voice and POV around here: it would be a shame to lose her. But realistically, you can't expect everyone here to be courteous or respectful. LPSG is an overall nice place with some rough neighborhoods.

Update:

I've taken advice given here and deleted my gallery - now no one can give me a rating. I've placed all my photos except for the "effects" ones, into albums which are private, and I've added some pictures not posted before to the albums.

I've made them private, but friends and contacts can still see them. If you want to see them and feel friendly and not hostile to me, send me a friend request and I'll approve it.

This *should* take care of the problem. I can always leave, if it doesn't.

Oh, and Bbucko, I'm really sorry about folks harassing you - I digress from your point of view about LPSG being a nice place, though - I think the "rough neighborhoods" outnumber the "nice places". imho. There's always a Spoiler to come along and ruin things, but that's life, you're right about that!

I'm not going to be on LPSG as much anymore, just not worth it - I haven't left - yet. But the guys will still have my pics to get off to if they're friends/contacts, and that's the main thing anyone's really interested in anyway, so all's well.

I do not think people should be allowed to rate pics or comment on them unless they have pics themselves. Even gold members... If no pics up then they lose that right to rate pics. It's only fair, especially on this kind of site.

I don't necessarily disagree with you.

However, considering how many people post threads entitled "rate me/comment on me/what do you think?/etc", I don't think that would be a popular change.

There appear to be far more people who want to be rated, than there are people who want to bestow ratings.

You were right about putting your pix into private albums. That way, you can share with whomever you choose without any unwelcome feedback from the peanut gallery.

As to stalkers/trolls: they are a fact of life on the internet, one which I learned about the hard way before having made some adjustments in my habits, screen names, etc which have mitigated it somewhat. I just bear in mind that for every one deranged asshole whom I've pissed off enough to have him/her follow me around, there's another ten in whom I've found rapport and amity.

LPSG's a big place. If you're like me you'll lurk for months, then slowly re-integrate yourself back into the community. I've done that at least twice since having joined. There's an enduring charm to the place.
