What 'Signs of Summer' have you seen thus far?

It's been in the high 80's to low 90's for 2 weeks now. In the south that doesn't really count as a sign of summer. Friday night, while driving home from the 'good' Subway with mom. I saw my first lightning bug of the season!

Suddenly, as the sun went down they were everywhere. They bought a smile to my face, as I thought of summers long ago. We neighborhood kids would run barefoot through each others yards with mayonnaise jars in hand. My dad had of course punched air holes for my tiny prey.

* There are 3 Subway stores within about 8 miles of us. The one that is the farthest away is of course the one my mother prefers. She swears they make a better sandwich than the one that is closest to us.

We just hit 90 for the first time today; last time I checked earlier it was about 95. That was enough of a sign for me!!! It hasn't been any higher than the mid 80s for a while now, and even THAT'S only happened a couple of times so far this year. My favorite time of year - the ice cream truck has started making his daily rounds and little kids are in the park on the swings - I think I'm gonna pop open one of my favorite summertime cds and slowly nurse a beer on the back porch with my feet up... ahhhhhhhhhhh

Having to turn on the AC. Being to be out at night without a jacket. (I love that) I love a nice warm evening.

Summer seems to be the natural environment for man, we would not have survived as humans were it not for a warm climate.

And it's daylight outside till about 8:30 PM right now. Sometimes I wish it would get darker at 7:30 so that when I go to my parents house I don't have to see or interact with the old neighbors.

Summer?

Summer's here?

I'd like to where?????

It snowed last night in Snoqualmie Pass, about an hour east of Seattle, last night.

We've gotten rain, rain and MORE rain this year than I can remember in my past 10 years here. It's in the 50's here right now on Jun7, 2008!

It looks like it's going to be a long, cold wet winter... I mean summer...here in Western Washington.

Well those of us who don't live in a temperate rainforest are having summer like weather.

It snowed last night in Snoqualmie Pass, about an hour east of Seattle, last night.
Eeek, I hate driving through the passes when it's snowing or icy. It's very scary.

We've gotten rain, rain and MORE rain this year than I can remember in my past 10 years here. It's in the 50's here right now on Jun 7, 2008!
Temperate Rainforest

In the northwest corner of the United States, in Washington and Oregon, there is an area with cool winters and mild summers and an incredible 100 to 200 inch annual precipitation. This is a rainforest of a different sort, a temperate rainforest. Here one would find tall conifers, mosses and ferns on the ground, and sitka spruce. These trees are among the largest in the world many with trunks ten feet in diameter and 300 feet tall. Some record setters are; western red cedar—diameter 21 feet, sitka spruce—diameter 13 feet, and douglas fir—diameter 14 feet. The fallen trees in the temperate rainforest are soon covered with mosses, ferns, fungi, and lichens. Hemlock and spruce seedlings sprout from the decaying wood. Over time the trees grow and the “nurse log” decays away leaving the new young trees on “stilts”. Some of the resisent animal life includes black bear, deer, Roosevelt elk, and marmots.

It looks like it's going to be a long, cold wet winter... I mean summer...here in Western Washington.
