I lost a little friend today. Last year, a pair of rabbits had a litter under my horse's barn. Eventually the parents and babies moved on, except for one. He stayed and grew up and would spend the day with my mare. He would never let me get close. He would hop away when I fed my mare, then hop right back next to her as soon as I left.

This morning when I went to feed my horse, I found her standing over him. He had no wounds on him, so I assume he wandered over to a neighbors and was poisoned.

I know it sounds silly, but I'm going to miss seeing the little guy everyday.

it's the slightest of companionship, moreover that regimen from nature, that can be penultimate to one's sanity and peace of mind and heart. adorable yet becoming in yet another day of life, and realization of the bigger force and meaning from a vagrant hare.

How true a metaphor that encapsulates appreciation for life and living. and how fragile the gift of life is: all in one recollection.

Not silly at all - I love rabbits - had them as kids and as an adult too - though I did once have a rather vicious one, Mange Tout, that would bare its teeth all the time. It was still sad when it disappeared into the garden centre at the back of my house one day never to be seen again.

That is sad, at least you can keep the memories with you.

I would be worried though, if he got poisoned at your neighbors, then I'd be scared for your horse too.

Awwwwwww.................................

I'm sorry about the rabbit.
Looks like your horse is missing her little friend. Horses have feelings too.
