What are you supposed to wear under a singlet, a cup , nothing, or something else?

Some sort of undergarment used to be required for high school competition but that reg changed a year or so ago. Nevertheless, in many photos you can see the outline of briefs.

Ask your coach. Some tournaments require jocks or briefs, some don't. Remeber a kid who wore a soft cup--once-- not agood idea.

In the old days, we could choose to wear nothing, if we wanted, but I suppose there are rules today.

There are no rules as to what you wear under your singlet, at least they have never questioned anybody.

But most people wear compression shorts or boxer briefs.

When I was in high school, a lot of guys wore nothing under our singlets, although I think there was a rule you had to wear a jock or compression shorts. It was pretty obvious when someone who was circumcised wasn't wearing anything.

Practice was usually jocks and shorts, though some guys claimed that their jocks would get twisted and went without.

Cups are a bad idea for both you and your opponent since you can create leverage by grinding into the cup. Interestingly enough, in Muy Thai, a similar move is sanctioned.
