I've always been a stander and I can't see myself ever trying sitting. I don't want to sound like I'm criticizing the sitters but I don't think I'd feel as clean. I don't wish to go into graphic details but I imagine standing gives you more 'arm-room' to get a better wipe.

This thread is quickly becoming a hot topic - it's SHIT HOT!

The oddest thing I ever saw was a guy who used the toilet backwards - ie facing the toilet back wall. He'd straddle the seat. Not sure if he stood up to wipe or not.

The drawback to standing I imagine if there were any stray danglers that might land outside the bowl when wiping standing up. Or missing the bowl throwing your used TP to flush.

The drawback to sitting is that your fingers occasionally touch the toilet water when wiping especially on the bowls with a very high water level. The other bad thing about sitting is that if you wipe consistantly with your right hand and lift your right cheek for access the toilet seat eventually gets skewed to the left.

Good god, people. TMI. Waaaay TMI. :11: :23:

I always used to use my grandmother's outhouse (well, a hole in the barn) in Portugal as a kid, so standing to wipe was pretty much you're only option. Guess it stuck with me.
I'm not surprised. :ponder: :wink1:

Are the toilets in Turkey mostly squat?
First one I used was in Arles, in France.
I got used to them, but didn't fall in love with them.
In Azerbaijan, they didn't even have toilet paper.
Same deal in Turkey? Maybe in the country?
Squatters and sitters are about 50/50 Hhuck. Most newer homes have a toilet in the main bathroom and a squat in a dedicated little room with a small sink. The bidets are conveniently built into the the toilet. There's just a little spout in the rim pointing up at the correct angle and the water flow is controlled by a tap on the wall. I generally give it wipe or two with paper, then a few squirts of water and wiping as needed. It's very refreshing.

At the shop/office we only have squats with water hoses and little buckets.

Yes, on a road trip it's wise to carry your own TP if you at all squeamish about washing yourself the old-fashioned way.

how about left hand or right hand?

In India where TP is a luxury, the left hand is for wiping and the right hand is for eating. It's bad form to eat with your left hand obviously. Good luck finding clean running water to wash your hands!

I remember going to a small restaurant in a small village in India and the cook came out to greet me in the dining room. He only had one arm. I decided only on some chai tea there.

I've never heard of anyone standing to wipe. How on earth can you get yourself totally clean if you are standing?

TRUE, Ur CHEEKS ARE CLOSED, im a sitter, ur ass is naturally spread and open to wipe!
