Hey guys. Love this thread. I'm freshman very curious about the whole shower scene and changing in my dorm now that i am living and sharing the space with someone. Seems to be working out ok so far. We both have become really good friends so not as weird anymore.

Same for me. I used to wear a brief and a white T shirt since I was a baby but the clothes kept twisting and I had to adjust. One day I read an article about benefits of sleeping naked and.... here I am. Haha

While I dont think it as prevalent as some are making it out to be that so many people sleep naked, i guess it does happen with some. My guess is that the vast majority of guys sleep in underwear or shorts. In general I dont think its a huge deal if a roomie does..id sort of feel it out a bit to see what your roommate or suitemates are like. My experience is that eventually if you become close friends with your roommate nudity will be a non issue and will get to the point of joking and commenting about it..in your room, in showers etc. I had the straightest roommate ever fresh year and at points he would make random comments like...dude your dick looks big today. ( and to those who say he was hinting...he wasnt he was straight as an arrow..but he was comfortable)
as far as showers, walking to them hanging in dorms. it really depends on the setup..if its strictly all guys then you have more avenues..but if it is coed dorms, like most/many are..its not like you can walk out of your room naked. in my case the dorms were coed, the showers and bathrooms were by sex...and if you didnt have a suite shower ( on bathroom for three rooms 6-7 guys) we had showers down the hallway that were 6 stalls 3 each facing each other. There were curtains on them but most rarely used them ..unless I suspect that they were shy or jerking off more likely lol. Most guys just wore a towel or shrts or boxers walking to showers just because there were girls around also...some were more umm trying to show off a bit, there bods, their outline etc lol but most were just using something to cover up.
Bottom line bro just feel it out...if your roommate seems cool go for it. We all like to pretend that everyone if this big fng open jock guy who always wants to be naked..but the fact is there are all kinds of dudes in college. you just want to be comfortable and they do too..if you feel like hey I think he will be cool with me being naked, go for it..it will probably be a relief to him knowing you are cool with it. I was the naked guy with my first roommate...and I could tell he was a little more shy about it. I didnt sleep naked but id be back from my shower dry off in room, stand naked doing my hair etc...id stand naked in sink shaving. Yeah, this happened a few times during my freshman year. Not every Saturday like @Dave NoCal and no, not everyone was naked but several guys would be. It came to an end though when someone thought it would be a good idea to fill the large trash cans and flood the hall to make a big slip and slide. RA got pissed, threats were made.

In my case the dorms were small, two story with thirty four occupants max, and common shower rooms in the center of each floor. Almost everyone lived in the dorms and ate in the cafeteria. There were a thousand students, more or less, total. So it was a pretty intimate campus. The men's dorms tended to have particular cultures and like-minded guys tended to congregate in dorms. The naked water fight dorm was a "jock" dorm. Four years later it still maintained the same culture.

Athletes need to peel away the BS and focus on what matters in order to succeed, so they have it right.
The shy guys could take a good lesson from them. Their fear is based on ignorance so when they find out first hand from a guy who knows that that there's nothing to worry about everything gets better, for them and for you as their roommate. Lead by example.

I remember college fondly! We'd turn all the showers on hot, hang curtains to hold the steam in and invite the girls from the next floor to join us. Lots of frozen drinks made, friends hanging on a Friday night just in shorts.
I occassionally slept naked. My roommate was cool with it. Like others have said, you see your roommate naked a lot so no big deal.
