Is it normal for a guy to get incredibly sleepy after sex? I find myself ready to doze off sometimes after a good long sex session.

Does this happen to anyone else? Maybe I'm loosing my stamina in middle age.:frown1:

It's the most normal thing for men. It's the most annoying thing for women.

It is VERY normal to get sleepy after sex. I've always been that way - I think most people are... right?

The thing that sucks is getting sleepy after morning sex. I'm just wiped out for the rest of the day. I've only started noticing this within the last few months and I've just brushed it off as just not getting enough sleep but sadly this isn't the case because lately I feel drowsy after sex even when getting a good night's sleep.

If it's some physiological male response after cumming, I wonder what the benefit of it is, biologically speaking.

Apparently men get sleepy, women want to talk. But not everyone fits into their gender boxes - I want to snuggle and doze, and talking just seems like too much effort.

I'm not sure that the dozing has a 'benefit' as such. I think it's just a side effect of neurotransmitters and hormones released during sex.

What's odd is that I feel sleepier with some partners and less with others. I'm not sure if it's a function on how good the sex was.

Maybe there is something to be said about a biological chemistry between people that makes you sleepy after sex with certain guys.

Interesting thought. I get very sleepy with one of my FBs, and hardly sleepy at all with the other. I definitely have better sex with the one I get sleepy with. You could be onto something with the biological chemistry thing.

That lethargy and sleepiness is (one of) the effects of prolactin. The refractory period before another full erection can be had is another.

Interestingly, much more prolactin is released after orgasm achieved during sex than is released from masturbation. This typically results in less sleepiness after self-pleasuring.

We get sleepy, but sometimes we only need a nap. I think it has something to do with endorphins.

And a quick google search found this interesting conversation about that theory. Apparently physics guys agree with me.

It's basically endorphins causing drowsiness. You give in too much to the drowsiness, your body shuts down and voila! You're zonked out.

The effect can also be compounded if you've done alot of strenuous activity besides having sex that day, such as hard work, studying, long travel, etc.

I had meant to answer this question last night but I had just had sex and I dozed off.
Every time I ask my doctor questions like this he always gives me the same answer... "You are not getting any younger you know." Seriously I'm in excellent shape and health but there are a lot of things that I just either don't have the inclination or stamina to do anymore... like staying out all night.

Count yourself as lucky that you are having sex on a regular basis and the only thing you have to worry about is taking a little recovery nap... I know I do.

After I cum I pass out so fast, especially if I'm drunk. Sometimes I don't even get the condom off, or sometimes I fall asleep on top of the girl I'm with. If I'm masturbating I've shot on my chest and then passed out and my roommate found me. It's so bad. It's like narcolepsy.

Ok that is a bit extreme. Maybe your are mildly narcoleptic.

and yes I sleep very good after but I don't guess getting drunk helps any..

If that affects you like that, I'd consider seeing either a specialist or your doctor, 'cause that don't sound right.
