The internet is everywhere, so is online shopping, so gone are the days where if you went into a small town your underwear selection was limited to tighty whites or “old man boxers”. (Ok I’m referencing the early 1980s). I imagine other guys may hold off until they travel to the next big city if he was fashionably inclined.
AND how about jockstraps? I would guess that locker room traditions have held out longer in small town life- with farmers, mechanics and other blue collar men wanting their boys to grow up with traditional experiences that they had (again, sounds like a John Hughes film, I know.) Did your neighborhood have a small family-run sports store, and did it sell jockstraps, or did you go without?
And for you guys who still live in small towns (or have some nearby and need a good reason to road trip) does your family-run sports store have jocks for sale, or have they switched over only to compression shorts? If they are really small, do they sell “old” merchandise? Or does it seem like they are keeping up with changing fashion styles and brands?
Sometimes when I daydream I think of how much fun it would be to have a time machine, and be able to go back and visit some places that my younger self couldn’t take full advantage of- and buy some vintage clothing to wear as an adult years later
