I enjoy my smokes too.

You know I've seen too many people that try to do all the right things and they die prematurely anyway. You pays your money and takes your chance.

QFT.

Is it better to live to a ripe old age with a life full of regrets and self denial

I don't think so

or die a little younger and "pack it all in"?

well when they die younger all of you smokers [ hubby included in this as well ] all of them will have to pay undertaker and most likely carry the young to the grave. so knowing this i would rather live to be a rip old age myself. so i could set back and say see that younger person there. i out lived that healthy dude and he said i was going to die if i didn't stop smoking

If I were to die this week I can put my hand on my heart and say that I have no regrets about anything I have done. What seemed to be a shit pile at the time often turned out to be a blessing in disguise. Life is way too short for words like "I wish I had..................."

QFT, again I think other people should worry about their own bad habits and leave others to worry or enjoy their own in the way they wish to do until its their time to go one day.

I just have to share one last thought on the subject...In the olden days when you could smoke on a commercial flight I was talking to someone and she said to me "I don't smoke, but the people in the smoking section are so much more interesting to talk to."

The thing I remember most about smokers were the double amputations. My first time working in healthcare, and there was an acute hospital and a rehabilitation facility on the next street. Smokers would have both legs removed above the knee because of smoking-related gangrene caused by vascular damage, and then go to the rehabilitation centre to be taught how to live the rest of their lives. Most were in their forties and fifties.

If smoking causes people to lose their legs, what do you think it does to the penis?
:261:Smoking does not cause people to lose their legs.

What the fuck do you people smoke in Australia? :yikes: Arsenic? I'm an art historian and an educator not a medical professional. That said, in America smokers do not routinely have their legs amputated.  :duh: Perhaps, people who have their legs amputated get bored and need something to do with their hands and start smoking.

Or and this is just a guess. Perhaps the people you saw, in addition to having been chain smokers, had lousy diets, avoided exercise like the plague and were diabetic. In the USA most amputations are caused by untreated or improperly treated diabetes.

Smoking, like said before, is not the ROOT cause of certain health implications, but it is a proven FACT that it doesn't help situations. I think what the guy talking about amputations meant that I'm sure patients that had become amputees had a history of smoking habits, as well as other health issues like diabetes or poor dietary habits, etc. Just with any debate, there will always be 2 opposing sides and some in the middle. Both sides need to compromise and understand each sides view.

With that said, suffering from asthma all my life, severely I might add, and being hospitalized on numerous occasions, I'm glad people can't smoke in certain public places. I commend you on doing what you like to do and by no means would stop that, but when it interferes with my health without me choosing to smoke, that's when it's an issue.

Another smoker here, and I get as hard as a rock. Some of the most common factors of ED are general health; including, high blood pressure, diabetes, prostate problems, depression, spinal or head injury, certain medications and stress. I think it's important to realize that alcohol consumption and cigarette smoking can contribute to the problem but are not the cause without the other factors I mentioned.

So I suppose the smokers I saw who had lost both legs had high blood pressure, prostate problems etc? Being a double-amputee isn't very sexy, and while it's not a common side-effect of smoking, the very fact that 3% of smokers will lose both legs show that smoking has more than enough power to damage the vascular system enough to cause legs to die. That being the case, it can and does cause ED.

There are a couple of reasons why non-smokers don't like smokers much, even though smoking is pretty much restricted to inside one's home these days. The main reason for me is the healthcare costs; and we non-smokers, the 85%, subsidise smokers to the tune of billions in a year for totally preventable illnesses. How much do you think it cost to amputate someone's legs, and then have them cared for and on a disability pension for the rest of their lives? Not an insignificant amount of money, I can assure you. And other illnesses: cancer, heart attack, stroke, COPD, the list goes on and on.

No, it's very real.

Gangrene (Death of Tissue) and Amputation

Oh, FYI, anyone can just look it up:

There's quite a bit on it.

i wouldn't worry to much about this if i were you rackrack. its pretty much BS, from the non smokers who are nothing but a fanatic's heath nut any way. nothing wrong with being healthy. but they cross the line when they try to tell just the smokers that they are the reason for the high cost of health care. that is plain BS. i bet if we went and looked we could find all sorts of things unhealthy in their house that cause many kinds of health issues not related to smoking at all. but they just want to pick on the smokers as usual. by the way your comment about the fine cigars here LOL right on my hubby has smoked all his life and his big stoggie is very pleasing and has never once wondered off in la la land and became soft yet in all the years Ive got good sex from it and him. so like i said some here are just a little off in their diagnoses about a few things it seems or what ever.
