Excellent Nudey! Camilla would be chuffed to little mint balls. ;)

The Queen Mum once gave some royal waving tips to a newspaper. Apparently, the right way to do it, is to pretend you're unscrewing the top off a cookie jar (except vertically not horizontally, lol).

Don't you mean biscuit jar?

Super Nanny is an amusing show, and at least they didn't take some pencil thin woman who is meant only to appeal to the eyes. I find it ridiculous that she can turn around a family in so short a time, and think it's mostly staged however she is often right.

Fairy Godmother? Never heard of it.

Jamie Oliver? I didn't even know he was British. I saw a few of his shows, it strikes me as stupid. It may work in a small town or a small school district but the nonsense he does isn't happening in a large city.

Tabatha (Coffey) who is Australian ranks high on my likes. I loved her when she was a contestant on Shear Genius. I don't really believe she can complete turn a place around (originally just salons, now other places as well.....which is insane. I mean, who is she to tell a bar/club how it should do things? She knows hair, stick with hair, don't start talking about lighting and swizzle sticks). I like her anyway.

Gordon Ramsay I detest more and more each time I see him. His ego gets bigger daily and he looks like he rarely takes a bath.

Robert Irvine of Restaurant Impossible. I like him especially when he gets angry and annoyed that things aren't moving along on schedule and he doesn't use a snotty attitude on it, he comes in and tells it like it is.

Some British imports are good, some not so good, some make very little sense perhaps it's a culture thing. Some I can watch with the sound off because the people look nice but I don't get the dialogue as far as references.

Now, I'm a huge fan of the UK, but... I've become slightly embarrassed by the glut of 'pompous brit abroad' shows, 'experts' patronise people in their own country.

I'm thinking primarily of 'Supernanny US', 'The Fairy Godmother' and 'Jamie Oliver's School Dinners'.

Is it just an amusing entertainment format, and harmless fun - or... does it genuinely piss ppl off and offend them?

Any thoughts appreciated. :smile:
I don't see anything pompous about any of those.
People said the same of Trinny and trans,but I think that people NEED to be shown up and OFTEN!!

I *LOVE* all those British sitcoms - I grew up with them. I try to model myself on Mrs Slocombe and Hyacinth "Bouquet", but I'm probably more of an Onslow and Daisy (with a Mr Humphries tinge).....

As for the OPs question, I do enjoy "Me Or The Dog" - there's something about the host (her name escapes me) that makes me imagine her as a dominatrix.

I also like Supernanny - as someone who doesn't like children, I enjoy seeing little brats get told off.

There maybe nothing truer than when said in jest but a good parody of a snotty brit would be Catherine Tate's character The Aga Saga Woman (aka Mrs. Montgomery aka Mrs. Taylor-Thomas). The Catherine Tate Show characters - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Here's an example of accent-ism between Mrs. Montgomery's Received Pronunciation and a North East England (possibly Mackem) accent spoken by the actor Jill Halfpenny;
Jill Halfpenny on Catherine Tate - YouTube
and with a "London" or an Estuary English accent;
Hire car horror - The Catherine Tate Show - BBC comedy - YouTube

Cant stand Super Nanny , basic stuff that most common thinking persons should know about, and apply
similar with Jamie Oliver, was OK his first 1/2 a dozen episodes,now he seems on a mission to change everythin to Jamies World ..as he sees it.

ALL Brit comedies are the BEST, cant think of them now as sooo many
even Bootsie & Snudge hahah was brilliant
Alf Garnett etc etc.. of course dont expect youngers to have known of them, or Bootsie at least ha
