I have no issue with this thread whatsoever, be it why or how it was started. I realize it is easier for LGBT community when high profile people come out, but I still think it should be unnecessary. I'm simply hoping it gets to that point eventually. As far as "being gay is more than who you sleep with" is concerned, what do you mean by that? I'm genuinely curious because I've heard opinions on both sides of that fence and I'd like to hear yours. :)

I once heard an older gay man put it this way: "If being gay is only about having sex, then I haven't been gay for years."

With straight people, society understands that MORE than just sex is important to them. With gay people, society seems to think that sex is ALL that is important to them.

You often hear well meaning people say things like, "I don't think it matters if he's gay or not. I don't care what he does in his own bedroom." But this seems to imply that being gay is ONLY about the SEXUAL BEHAVIOR. Being gay or bisexual or lesbian is more than just that. It's understood that being "straight" is more than just what you do in your bedroom, so I wish people would realize that being LGBT is also more than just what goes on in your bedroom.

I remember a woman on a talk show saying, "They think that all gays do is have sex. We don't go to the movies. We don't go out to have dinner. We don't go to museums. We don't go shopping. We don't celebrate holidays. We just have sex." Unfortunately, that's all society seems to think.

So, knowing whether Queen Latifah is gay or not is more than just knowing what she does in her bedroom.

I understand that is the point you were getting at, I was just curious as to what that "more" meant to you specifically. Of course everyone is more than who they sleep with. I never tried to imply that so I apologize if that's the way it came off. I was lucky enough to grow up in a neighborhood where there were plenty of LGB (not so much T). I believe this contributed to my open acceptance of people in general and it peeves me that the LGBTs of the world are expected to offer up their personal relationships for public fodder. I understand how important QL's coming out would be, but I also think there is merit in what she's doing. I think she sends a clear message that her sexuality should not be an issue to anyone and people should simply move on from it.

I've always thought of Queen Latifah as incredibly beautiful, engaging and intelligent and her size does nothing to deter those feelings... (i was raised by 'rotund' and girthy single parent mom.... so body size isn't a problem at all).
My problem is that i've always had crushes on these types of woman, and while i'd never end up with a woman like QL (much less any celebrity) i've also become obsessively infatuated with many of these strong empowered females when they do 'out'. Typical types are Jody Foster, Ellen DeGenres, Portia De Rossi, Rosie O Donnel (yes i had a huge crush on Rosie) and more recently Jane Lynch.... If you're funny, sensitive, passionate, compassionate and can laugh at yourself and tell the world to fuck itself with regards any negative opionions of you.....well then i'm yours... :)
And if you do decide to out yourself.......well then... i'm fucked ;)
So 'bigups' to QL on keeping 'mum' on the subject... i don't think i've got enough pages left in my celebrity obsession scrap book LOL!!!

There's no need to apologize.

About offering up their personal lives for public fodder, I think that this is what happens with anyone of any minority group. A black movie star is not just "a movie star," but "a BLACK movie star" -- and he is expected to be a role model. Heterosexual white males seem to be allowed to just be individuals, but women, people of color, LGBT people, are all expected to "represent" their group. I agree that it's ultimately bullshit. On the other hand ... if the mainstream public were to realize how many influential gay people there are, then bigotry would be less.

Okay. Before everyone jumps all over me, let's get a few things clear:

1. I support the lesbian community.
2. It's good to be gay.

Okay? Is that clear? Thank you.

Now ... on to the question. For all of her career, Queen Latifah has been plagued by questions about her sexuality. I've always thought she was a lesbian, and apparently everyone else has as well. Now, I hear that she's moving in with her (female) trainer. This is all over the media. It seems like she is on the verge of coming out -- which is a good thing.
I never gave it any thought, as long as she's happy and isn't attacking people for what and who they are her sexual desires isn't my business.

LMAO !!! Someone's sexuality, whether he or she is a celebrity or not, is no one's business. Mind your own business, people !!!

Okay. Lemme get this straight ... you have written on a forum called "Large Penis Support Group" that someone's sexuality is no one's business, all the while advertising to every member of this very sexualized forum that you are 90% gay and 10% straight?

Get off of your high horses, people. Seriously. Get off it!

Does it matter. I like her bubbly, BIG personality.

Oh, it matters so much. It is all the difference in the world. And, by the way, anyone who would ask such a question is just a total homophobe, just totally uncultured asshole, and is obviously the first person in history to EVER take an interest in the sexuality of a public figure ... as certainly public figures do not seek publicity, do not take on projects that put them in the public eye, and homosexual celebrities certainly NEVER speak publicly about their sexuality, occasionally making statements to declare proudly that they ARE indeed homosexual ... with the exception of Elton John, Ricky Martin, Rosie O'Donnel, Melissa Etheridge, Ellen Degenerous, Niel Patrick Harris, Dennis Rodman, George Michael, Boy George.... Oh, what was my point? I forget.
