I support the right to free speech, HOWEVER, when people are paying the bill for you to be on air...*aka Sponsors*, THEN you have/need too watch what you say. If he was footing the bill for his air time THEN he should have free range to say what he thinks, no matter how WRONG he is for saying it. UNLESS, the radio station does not feel that he should speak on certain topics.

Exactly. Huge paychecks for hate speech is not at all what our founding fathers were thinking of when they said free speech.

I have no problem with rush standing outside the grocery store, shouting at random women they are slut prostitutes, who need to make him a sex tape.

In fact had he said that in front of a grocery store he'd, be asked to leave and arrested if he didn't cease.

Rush might be right he probably doesn't need advertisers to put on his show. I can easily imagine he has/could find an anonymous "sponsor" who will keep him on the air.

I've listened to his show a couple of times and it isn't entertaining or informative. It's time to paraphrase an old saying, "only accurate information is power."

I'm sure the Koch Brothers could spare an extra $300 million over the next 10 years to keep him going!

I just saw Ed Schultz tonight, once again, do another segment on Rush. However, Schultz' hyspocrisy on this issue is sickening considering the fact that just last year he was suspended by MSNBC for a week for calling Laura Ingram a slut.

And how about Bill Maher calling Sarah Palin a Cunt. Any of you cool aid drinkers want him off the air????

The only thing you fucking liberals should be outraged at is your hypocrisy.

Then you must have seen how Ed compared his slur against Laura Ingram to the 9 hour 3 day "rant" Limbaugh undertook! AND you must have seen how he aired his sincere apology to Ms. Ingram compared to Rush Limbaugh simply saying, "The Liberals made me do it!" If I remember correctly, I didn't hear Ed Schultz blame anyone else for the remarks he made!

I used to listen to Rush Limbaugh faithfully when he had his TV show in the 1990's. I've always believed you don't "ignore" people like this because I consider them dangerous and I want to know how they think and what they say. Ahhhh how well I remember Rush's introductory line the day after the 1994 election of Bill Clinton, "America held Hostage -- day one!" I almost slammed my fist through the TV! And then of course there was the rant he made (I actually forget just to whom he was spewing forth his vitrole against) -- but his words were, "These people need to be anihilated!" Great language reaching the ears of 10's of thousands of nut cases who would gladly put a bullet through the President or any of the "libtards" or "feminazi's"! Some day the FCC is going to pass standards like they do in the movies AND they are going to have the guts to issue stiff fines and penalties to enforce it. And then the rhetoric of the air waves is going to calm down a few notches. Make your point -- but make it like a gentleman/lady!

I'll raise our Laurence O'Donnell and Rachel Maddow against your Rush Limbaugh (who by the way is powerful enough in Republican circles to scare the bejesus out of their front runner!!!), Glenn Beck and Ann Coulter!

Mensch: Good points. It's also worth sharing the knowledge that Ed Shultz volunteered to take himself off of the air for at least a week when he succumbed to the dumb assery of the Laura Ingram frustrations. He not only rolled over, he made a personal call to Ingram insisting that he would understand if she wanted to kick him in the kidneys. With Rush, it's doubtful kicking him in the kidneys would have any effect because of all the layers of fat he must have covering them up.

And I'm proud of how Maddow never takes the bait no matter how many times the uber right commentators and politicians refer to her as "that boy with the funny haircut on MSNBC."

Well -- let's see........we're up to 140 sponsors who've pulled their support! I hope those trying to get this ass of the air catch hold of him by the heels and never let go. He rightfully deserves all the heat he's taking for that self righteous smugness he's pandered for so long. We want you on a very very nice looooooong vacation Rush!!

On a recent 12-hour plane ride back to "the land o' the free" I took that time to write and send a thank you e-mail to every company who has withdrawn their advertising dollars from Plush Rush. And as far as those advertisers who still make meek 15-second quips about their products on his show, I sent as many as I could dig up letters of "Bad! You should be ashamed! Your mother is ashamed of you!" letters.

I wonder how long it will take Icey Hot to return to throw billies at Plush Rush. One hopes "NEVAH!"

Rush irritates the crap out of me, as I'm sure he does a lot of people who manage to maintain the ability to think for ourselves. The whole army of "dittoheads" thing, people who seem so willing to gleefully agree with whatever spews out of his mouth, whether they understand it or not. But I realized a long time ago that the more haters some celebrity has, the more impossible it is to really get them to shut up and go away. Howard Stern certainly has always courted controversy, and can keep getting away with it on satellite radio, so maybe that will be Rush's destination. Musicians, from Eminem to Madonna and Gaga all have millions of haters, and it sort of fuels their careers in a 'there's no such thing as negative publicity' kind of way. Unfortunately, bitch is like a bad penny and will probably live on in reruns even after he is gone.

If people would quit listening to these drama stirring idiots, they'd go away. No audience, no money. The same thing goes for Bill Maher. He is just as rotten but wearing a different label. I find both to be quite repulsive, and don't listen to either one of them. I do my own research, and think for myself.

we are starting a boycott against our local station that carries his program. despite massive calling to the station to have him pulled off, the station said it would keep him . the station is now under boycott.
with any luck, either the oxycontin or the junk food will end Rush sooner rather than later. we can hope.

Listened to his show for a few minutes yesterday after accidentally hitting the seek button on the stirring wheel. My ears perked up when Rush stated his topic for that moment was "The War on Women." He started to riff on Bill Clinton and Monica Lewinsky. His comment that Clinton destroyed Lewinsky made me uncomfortable. Rush, IMO is fanning the flames and doesn't seem to listen to himself while he is talking, but he has a point, Clinton is doing fine and Lewinsky is still suffering from betrayal. Reminded me of how stark the disparity is between men and women. Of course, Rush didn't make any effort to examine or offer ideas to lessen this disparity. Finally, I'd say there is not a complete advertising boycott. Heard three ads for small local companies.

Mensch, your last sentence brings up an interesting point. Funnily enough, I have had some "interesting" (to say the least) conversations/debates with dyed-in-the-wool racists over why whites are genetically wired to be superior to blacks, and over slavery being "justifiable". And though at some points I ground my teeth hard enough to hear it, I listened to every word they had to say and pointed and counterpointed accordingly as I saw applicable to the discussion. Why?

Because they didn't act like donkeys from the Planet A*shole as they did it.

Effective communication starts in the delivery. One would be surprised at how many people will at least hear a person out if they don't try to forcefully cram a square peg into the listeners round earhole. But on the flip side of that--noise and command sells. Montaigne said that, "He who establishes his argument through noise and command proves that his reason is weak". In modern-day parallel, he got it wrong; now, he who establishes his argument through noise and command proves that doing so can make him $400 million dollars a year (Rush Limbaugh), $23 million dollars a year (Bill Maher), or $10 million dollars a year (Bill O'Reilly).

The saddest part is that the noise and command kings spawn a gazillion little illegitimate noise and command babies who want to be just like Paw--complete with a'hootin and a'hollerin' and ill-mannered behavior. Anyone who doesn't believe me can look around the pol forum right here on LPSG and see that. Agree to disagree is dead. You have to be all in like Flynn or all out like gout, no in-betweens. I believe what I believe, and if you don't believe it too then you're my enemy, a "sheep", "ignorant", "don't have a f*cking clue"--and not worthy of my respect. And that's sad.

When did we allow bad manners to become fashionable acceptable in the name of disagreement? When did we allow people to forget that they shouldn't say things that would cause Sister Catherine to crack them across the knuckles with a ruler? Oh, that's right: when people jumped wholeheartedly into allowing themselves to be controlled by their emotions instead of their sense of reason, and when idealism took over shame.
