Deodorant, stuff that actually prevented rather than cover body odor, was developed in 1888 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA.

Granted only about half the French use deodorant or even bathe every day or even change their underwear every day, but we are making inroads.

Wait, what's that sound? It's all LPSG's French members leaving as fast as their (frogs) legs will carry them...

:eek:uttahere:

LPSG has very few French members. As countries go it's way under-represented however it seems that France, on the whole, is under-represented on the internet. I think it's because they're all still using Minitel. It's French and that's good enough for them.

Minitel. Pffffffffffff !!

It's a shame there aren't more French people on LPSG. I'd hoped some would provide some inside insight on the identity debate that's currently raging... I'm finding it very interesting, though I'm not exactly following it day by day.

Has news of "Sarko's Identity Challenge" reached the US?

No. Last we heard of France there were riots in Paris. If there's no American angle or a British royal involved then Americans don't care.

Now, now... be nice people!! :biggrin1:

I really honestly don't get why France is the butt of many jokes. Brits, Americans, Dutch having a pop, and now Spanish?:smile:

And most of all: what does it mean to be French?

It means giving the Irish a break i guess!

Nuff jokes?

Ok... Here's an article about the French identity debate from the Independent.

For those that do French, here's a supportive editorial from Le Monde. For more, see this article from Libération and a great radio debate.

In his speech, published in Le Monde 09/12/09 Sarkozy said that French Muslims must se faire humbles et discrets dans leurs pratiques ou expressions ("be humble and descreet in their practices and expressions" in other words, you can be Muslim, but keep your head down).

He also talked about the need to respecter ceux qui arrivent, respecter ceux qui accueillent (respect those that arrive, respect those that recieve/host), totally missing the fact that most of France's minorities are French-born. He's treating them like newly arrived immigrants that need to integrate. It's outrageous!

Amazing (and sad) how much of this debate, which should be about the positive content of French identity, is about what France doesn't identify with and can't accept - Islam.

In my opinion he's still playing to racist public opinion to galvanise support from the right and stick the last dagger into the Front National. But he's recklessly doing this by attempting to pin down national identity in a form that excludes a large part of an already excluded population.

It means you aren't fortunate enough to be a Spaniard.

But seriously. The French brought us great wine but now we can get just as good from California USA. Good cheese but we can get that from Wisconsin USA. hot fashion which we now get from New York USA. Damn the French have lost their identity.

I'm wondering that the French are under represented on LPSG or accurately represented based upon French endowments? Just pondering no facts to support it either way.

maybe they just arent as egotistical? or because they spend all their time fucking rather than talking about how good they fuck?

Bingo. Walking in France, I've more often heard the sound of people making sexy wafting out of open windows, than anywhere else I've been.
