The professor is a Psychiatrist and conducts much of his research through his classes. It was very weird but he should not be reported for it.

Please explain why you don't think he should be reported for it? Personally I don't consider it ethical. The thing I see is that you (the students) are paying him to teach, not probe your minds and make a discovery on you.

If he wants to conduct research fine, but he can pay for it in a paid research study. How about the class be free?

The reason he brought it up now that I recall is because of a discussion on American traditions and customs. Also, he was not asking this question for his own knowledge but for the classes knowledge. Therefore, the slip of paper idea would be somewhat irrelevant unless he presented the results with percents or ratios. The professor was very cool and I was not offended by his question nor was anyone else, so reporting him would be going over the line In My Opinion. He was also persistent in stressing that if we were offended by anything to please inform him.

University is a place where ideas and opinions are presented to students, and its up to the students to percieve those ideas and opinion in there own manner doing there own research..... The prof. didn't do anythingw rong talking about that topic, it's similar to tlaking about abortions, or in science class where the prof. says "Sorry if any of you are religious, but this is this courses view on the creation of life"......The only thing I can say regarding this topic is that you should have been a man and dsiplayed to the class that you were uncut. This would have #1 showed that your actaully proud of being uncut, and #2 all the girls would have said that is the most confident man I've met in my life.....Its not penis shape, penis size, its all about confidence (unless you have a micro penis)

I don't feel he crossed any sort of boundary. Knowledge of circumcision status has absolutely nothing to do with sex. In addition, there was the option to abstain by simply not raising your hand. If anyone asked if this meant you were uncircumcised, you could answer it was none of their business.

Sociology is a lot like anthropology (my college minor) in that it's very hard to get people to recognize that the way they think is a product of their culture and traditions. You can only do this by calling attention to them. This intrudes on a lot of taboo territory, because most people don't like to question why they do things the way they do. It's uncomfortable, but it helps us grow.

Also, you might not have been the only uncircumcised guy in your class. Has it occurred to you that upon seeing virtually everyone raise their hand, another uncut guy might have as well?

By pretending you were cut, you were the one participating in the teacher's experiment.

He would have known that in a class of say 100, the odds were that at least 10 would be uncut. If nobody announced themselves as uncut, it would have confirmed to him that uncircumcised males in the USA are ashamed of their status and try to hide it.

Your story becomes more and more suspect by the day.

A slip of paper would not be irrelevant, it would have saved you from your shame of being pure of body=uncircumcised.

A reputable professor would have handled it in a more discreet manner. I've been in classes where personal matters have been presented as a topic and when getting this kind of information it is done privately.

If your story is true, he may be using it for masturbatory fodder, if it's not true, then you may be using it as such.

No matter what the story may or may not be, I can not believe anything from you Brockli, since, you weren't even honest in the classroom. That tells me, you have no problem being a liar. Either you have lied and made up a tale, or you lied in the classroom- a liar either way.

<calls bullshit>

Unless it's a medical school class, I highly doubt that a medical doctor/psychiatrist is the professor. Psychologist or someone with a doctorate in sociology maybe, but not a psychiatrist. I also highly doubt that only one guy is uncut- more like 1/3 of the males or more....

How about we just end the discussion, I will unsubscribe myself from the thread. Because, all of a sudden I am a wimp for not confessing that I have uncut cock in a large room of complete strangers of all ages/gender. It was a very touchy subject that I had no desires of arguing about. Some people had even talked about how gross uncut cocks were so that made for a totally awkward situation. There were only about 5-6 males in the room. I very well may have been the only uncut male in the room.

And ohh, I am being accused of starting this thread for masturbatory purposes and being a Liar. For real? I 50 year old perv is really not telling me that right now??? What would have been the purpose of giving the professor a slip of paper with all of the males circumcision status if the entire class does gain any knowledge from it?? He was not asking us this question for his own good... Also, I hope to no longer be on these forums once I am your age.

If you guys do not believe me I really do not care. Continue to bicker if you want but I don't want to defend myself anymore. It is a lot easier to say you would have stood up for yourself on an online Forum about Large Penises than in a college classroom.

I personally like UC, I wish I was. And I don't think you a wimp, I might've done the same in the same situation if I were UC, it's not something that I would need to PROVE to others, if I felt awkward, I'd also lie to get the topic changed to something else. As someone else said, it's no one's business what my dick looks like, and again, I have nothing that needs proving to a bunch of college students in a classroom.

I was picturing more like 40 or more students- out of 5 guys, it is certainly conceivable that only 1 is uncut.

First off, lay off the poor guy! So many of you automatically state that you would have been proud to state you're uncut (and I think I would have too), but you're basing that bravery on what? Being a European guy where uncut are in the majority?

If so, you can't say that you would have outed yourself as intact in a society where cut is the "norm". And to say that you would and then ridicule another for not doing so is very short sighted indeed.

As for the appropriateness of the tutor, are we dumbing-down education to the point where anatomy cannot ever be mentioned? Even to a room of adults?

It worries me that so many of the responses question appropriateness, do you have your pitchfork ready? :eek:uttahere:

As another has mentioned, a place of education should be an open forum for discussion, and a class discussing such wide and intellectual subjects as Sociology are especially so. To even contemplate taking action against a tutor for asking such a question to an audience of adults (a question which no member of the class is required to answer) perhaps goes to show why American education standards are so poor.
It gives the impression that 50% of the class are just itching for an excuse to sue.

And OP, I love the Uncut v's Cut threads, they're fascinating. I think it's bizarre that Americans view uncut as "gross", it is the natural state of the penis.
But then the hypocrisy is deep. This is also a nation that has openly criticised the genital mutilation of women in African countries, and yet openly supports the genital mutilation of male children within its own borders.

No matter how you look at it and no matter what people claim the benefits of circumcision are, the American people and government allow genital mutilation. There is no question of morality here, and you can completely disregard all the data on one side or another.
The fact of the matter is that boys are routinely circumcised against their will. By its very definition this is genital mutilation. And the American people allow it to continue.

Now the really interesting question is why they allow it.

Is it because they are fooled by the false information relating to mythical medical benefits, or is it because they want every male citizen to adhere to a physical ideal?
One is based on ignorance and the other is something more sinister.

Either way it is crazy to imagine that this is openly permitted and yet stem cell research is "morally wrong".

Don't get me wrong, I love Americans. And us Brits have many flaws socially and psychologically too. But sometimes us Europeans do look at your entire Social structure and go "WTF?!"

I have to agree with captainwackit - have none of you been in a university in recent times? Everyone there is an adult and is there to learn.

The question the prof asked was one of medical anatomy, not one of sexual desire/performance.

This discussion has many relevant points in sociology: cultural standards; cultural brainwashing; genital mutilation as a "norm"; people's denial of the truth to fit in.

I went to university in Fargo, North Dakota. It doesn't get a lot more conservative than that and in more than one of my classes (Anthropology and also Human Sexuality) we discussed the cultural norms of circumcision and genital mutilation.

Exactly sparky11007 that is an excellent way of putting it. Some of us, on the other hand have not been in a University in quite some time.

Thanks Rob, and people sure do have ways of turning things around. SMH!
