Here in Tenerife we have had horrendous storms over the last couple of days.

I experienced the first Hurricane to hit these Islands in many many years not long after I arrived here nearly five years ago but that was nothing compared to what we witnessed this afternoon. I love a good thunder storm but what we got today was scary stuff. Where I live is built a fair way from the main village and a barranco separates us. It turned into a huge torrent in a matter of minutes today and washed away a large portion of the beach. These Islands are volcanic and falling water in large amounts is not generally absorbed. It finds it's way to the sea. Around 5pm today the sea turned dirty brown as far as the eye could see.

Anyway I digress. I'm interested in how much rain fell. All I have been able to find is that 187 litres per square metre fell per hour at the peak of the storm. How does that convert to inches or centimetres of water? My old brain aint what it used to be.

I knew it was a lot but hadn't figured on that much. After reading the article again that was total today I think and not per hour.

One litre will fill a square meter to a depth of one millimeter.

You asked for help, I never said I was good at math. So how much rain did fall in the plain in Spain?

Coming clean, I will admit: I used a rainfall calculator.
(If you google, you'll find lots of them.)
But then, seeing the result, it became obvious that one litre will fill a square meter to a depth of one millimeter.

Now you've warmed up with the simple question...

    Go answer Morsecode's thread.

    Well, go on!

    Actually, no.
I did the calculation (using a rainfall calculator on the web) and then, in my head, noticed this obvious relation.
But ain't it easy once you see it?
