He really does have a point, not sure how valid it is here, but minorities of any type improve their social standing by brand management. Respect is conditional, always has been. Ever heard of earning it?
Personally, yes, I'd lose respect for a straight man that spent his time trying to fuck self-proclaimed lesbians. It shows a lack of understanding as to what a person wants when they say they are a lesbian, and doesn't respect the preferences that implies. It'd be somewhat disrespectful for the straight guy to keep a monologue about how no woman is really a lesbian.
Granted, I'm not sure any woman feels pressured to be a lesbian for the sake of being a lesbian, though I'm sure it absolutely rocks.
