My wife has just finished six months of chemotherapy and now started on 12 moths of follow-up treatment. As if was not enough, some malicious, evil person has made allegations about us (me in particular) which has shattered our world. Right now I am in a fairly dark place and have no way of seeing a way out. This song came back to me:

ChanelleNo5... Nutshell is the song I would listen to when he (yes, the man I always talk about here, the one I'm with now) left me when I was 19.

Our story is long. Hard. Complicated.

If I can't be my own, I'd feel better dead. No truer words ever spoken.

Much love lady. Much fuckin love.

Cassandra Wilson is my favorite blues singer. Her voice swallows me whole and carries me away. I love the entire album New Moon Daughter, but for catharsis and cleansing, I play her cover of Strange Fruit, or her cover of Love is Blindness. The former actually makes me cry real tears. The latter is just achingly beautiful. I greatly prefer it to the original.

I could not choose a specific lyric that was my favorite. Each verse is flawlessly written.

Love is blindness
I don't wanna see
Won't you wrap the night
Around me?
Oh my heart
Love is blindness
In a parked car
In a crowded street
You see your love
Made complete
Thread is ripping
The knot is slipping
Love is blindness
Love is clockworks
And cold steel
Fingers too numb to feel
Squeeze the handle
Blow out the candle
Love is blindness
Love is blindness
I don't want to see
Won't you wrap the night
Around me?
Oh my love
Blindness
A little death
Without mourning
No call
And no warning
Baby, a dangerous idea
That almost makes sense
Love is drowning
In a deep well
All the secrets
And no one to tell
Take the money
Honey
Blindness
Love is blindness
I don't want to see
Won't you wrap the night
Around me?
Oh my love
Blindness

The song itself is so sad but then I think of how Layne died and whatever I am going through and the entire package is just a bawl fest.
