My first adult love was eight years older than I was. We built a life and a house together. But after 7 years, I knew I had to leave. This song always slays me.

YouTube - One more try - George Michael (with Lyrics)

That was close. ya know when I started this thread I almost stopped a few times before hit SUBMIT. Mostly because i thot everyone wouldn't get what I meant and would submit heavy metal youtube videos of teenage angst. Or it rained on my prom night. That's not what I meant to submit to you folks.
It was more of a life's dream unfullfilled and the idea of maybe everything you wanted was never going to happen. Which is why I posted those first two links.
Not OMG our love went wrong or whatever.

I think this fits (abbreviated).

A Tout Le Mond:

Don't remember where I was
I realized life was a game
The more seriously I took things
The harder the rules became
I had no idea what it'd cost
My life passed before my eyes
I found out how little I accomplished
All my plans denied

Moving on is a simple thing
What it leaves behind is hard
You know the sleeping feel no more pain
And the living all are scarred

A tout le monde (To everybody)
A tout mes amis (To all my friends)
Je vous aime (I love you)
Je dois partir (I must leave)
These are the last words
I'll ever speak
And they'll set me free

I feel all jacked up in a deep profound way when I hear this version of this song.

YouTube - John Lennon - God (acoustic)

The following was one of the saddest songs I had ever heard when I was 17. It seems over the top depressing to the point of being almost funny now, but it in high school it made me want to drown myself in my sink while shaking hands with a speeding freight train.

YouTube - nirvana-something in the way

This song was always captivating. It doesn't sound necessarily sad, but it has grown to be the saddest to me out of the three. The wistful way he sings about youth is absolutely up the alley of post adolescent wrist slicing dissillusionment.

Thanks Smashing Pumpkins.

Where's the razor blades?

Or zoloft?

My friends would often described the songs of Leonard Cohen, as music to slit your wrists. Athough often melancholic, I always found his music uplifting, poetic and a good reason not to slit my wrists. One the top five, live performers I have ever seen. A brilliant songwriter and artist.
