There are definately some of me and my steady that we both love, and the we both connect a lot with - here's another Top-5:

1. Blueberry Hill - Fats Domino
2. Dream a little Dream with me - Mamas & Papas
3. Your latest Trick - Dire Straits
4. Gentle on my mind - Glenn Campbell & Bobbie Gentry
5. The way it always starts - Gerry Rafferty

I'd say there are some more that 'resonate' with us, but those are definately the Top-5.

Brucester,

I have been reading your posts in the women's section and this list has finally done it! YOU are fabulous! I am so glad that you are here and posting ! What a welcome addition to the group! You must just be an old soul in a young man's body . I have to agree with some of your choices. I love Cass Elliott's rich inimitable sound that helped to make the Mama's and the Papa's and Glenn Campbell can sing the phone book to me! LOL!

I guess it's pretty sad when you love music as much as I do and haven't heard ONE of the songs mentioned here.  Age does not have its privileges sometimes.

as you can tell, I am a sucker for a melody and a lyric.
Any of these songs can, if performed well, can wrench my heart right out of my chest...

This list is also a great example of why I don't buy much music anymore, there is so little GOOD music being made anymore.

Husky,

Your choices are music to my ears! That music conjures up the original "Sabrina" with a stunning young William Holden in a white dinner jacket sneaking into the greenhouse to drink champagne and dance cheek to cheek to the strains of "Isnt it romantic?"
Have you heard Nora Jones' remake of Hank William's "Cold, Cold heart" ? How about Patty Austin's versions of "Spring can really hang you up the most "or " How long has this been going on?" Anything written by Harold Arlen, Hoagy Carmichael, Billy Strayhorn, Cole Porter, sung by a young Sinatra,Sarah Vaughn, Ella Fitzgerald, Shirley Horn, Joe Williams, Nat King Cole, Rosemary Clooney or arranged by the likes of Nelson Riddle can instantly calm my savage beast!

Hi Naughty,

thank you for those comliments, and glad you like my taste. I love the sensual depth in the first two songs, they're my all time slow-dance favorites, and great classics. Was a little surprised that you know Glenn Campbell - he's not the most famous any more. However do you know his version of Simon & Garfunkel's "Scarborough Fair"? Just great too, just as the duet "Sunday Morning" and "Less of me". I can really belt out the latter one when I got some drinks down, but you shouldn't hear it then... Hey, do you know Susan Raye?

I see from your icon that you perform... you're a big shot? Or was that just for fun? However, you prove taste in musics. I think those classics still are the best when it comes to seduction and sensuality.

Hope to hear from you again soon,
Bruce

Just a general note on the subject of music, as I recently found out... there's a series of re-mastered old Dire Straits albums on the market as CDs, and since I know the originals from my l/f's record collection, I ransacked the Amazon CD section buying those. I especially recommend 'On every street' and 'Communiqué' with lots of seductive songs. Maybe I'm gonna put together a tape of those.

k. d. lang's latest release, "Hymns of the 49th Parallel" has some incredible love songs on it. 10 of the 11 tracks are covers of other Canadian artists, and her own "Simple." I HIGHLY recommend it.

"A Case of You" (Joni Mitchell) - "You're in my blood like holy wine, you're so bitter and so sweet. I could drink a case of you, and still I would be on my feet."

"Fallen" (Ron Sexsmith) - "The leaves have lost hold of the branches as always, which leaves us with gold & wine colored pathway; in the same way I, in the same way I've fallen for you... like a star in the night, baby, I've fallen for you."

Another cut on this CD can have all different types of meanings and interpretations, but is one of the most powerful songs I have ever heard. It is "The Valley", written by Jane Siberry.

I grew up on '70s rock, and in college, completed a double major in music performance and education. My partner generally likes to listen to "traditionally gay" music - Whitney, Barbra, Cher, Donna Summer.... so we generally listen to classical. The only other exception is that we are both huge k. d. lang fans. I have to wait until I'm home alone to listen to a lot of my other music... LOL. Great topic!

The entire recording "Blue" kicks ass. Her best work imho.

Sadly, I'm a bit more active and aggressive in my music tastes, but here's a good song

Adema – Do What You Want To Do

Where will we go?
Where will we go?

Sign away all of my decisions
Tell when I breed
Terminate opinions
I dream away my freedom to please you
Let them talk so they feel important
They don't mean a thing, this is my own dream
Why do you have to put this on me?

(Where will we go?)
I'm a mess
(Where will we go?)
I'm a mess

Do what you wanna do
Where the fuck you wanna do it
Try hard to live your life
Live life the way that you want
Do what you wanna do
Where the fuck you wanna do it
Try hard to live your life
Live life the way that you want

Life's okay, so don't complain
You can't obtain, figure out how to maintain
It's a shame, make a change
So life will never ever find me down
Found out just what it's really all about
Never doubt, I wish I could get out
Why do you have to put this on me?

(Where will we go?)
I'm a mess
(Where will we go?)
I'm a mess

Do what you wanna do
Where the fuck you wanna do it
Try hard to live your life
Live life the way that you want
Do what you wanna do
Where the fuck you wanna do it
Try hard to live your life
Live life the way that you want

Find a way
[Repeat]

(Where will we go?)
I'm a mess
(Where will we go?)
I'm a mess

Do what you wanna do
Where the fuck you wanna do it
Try hard to live your life
Live life the way that you want
Do what you wanna do
Where the fuck you wanna do it
Try hard to live your life
Live life the way that you want

Vangelis - One More Kiss, Dear
From the Blade Runner soundtrack

One more kiss, dear
One more sigh
Only this, dear
It’s goodbye
For our love is such pain
And such pleasure
And I’ll treasure till I die
So for now, dear
Aurevoir, madame

But I’m how-d’ye, not farewell
For in time we may have a love’s glory
Our love story to tell

Just as every autumn
Leaves fall from the tree
Tumble to the ground and die
So in the springtime
Like sweet memories
They will return as will i

Like the sun, dear
Upon high
We’ll return, dear
To the sky
And we’ll banish the pain and the sorrow
Until tomorrow goodbye
One more kiss, dear
One more sigh
Only this, dear
Is goodbye
For our love is such passion
And such pleasure
And I’ll treasure till I die

:(

Stars
(Janis Ian)

I WAS NEVER ONE FOR SINGING
WHAT I REALLY FEEL
EXCEPT TONIGHT, I'M BRINGING
EVERYTHING I KNOW THAT'S REAL

STARS, THEY COME AND GO
THEY COME FAST OR SLOW
THEY GO LIKE THE LAST LIGHT OF THE SUN
ALL IN A BLAZE
AND ALL YOU SEE IS GLORY
HEY, BUT IT GETS LONELY THERE
WHEN THERE'S NO ONE HERE TO SHARE
WE CAN SHAKE IT AWAY
IF YOU'LL HEAR A STORY

NOW WE'VE AGREED THAT THE LAUGHTER AND TEARS
ONLY RELIEVED THE WEIGHT OF OUR YEARS
NOW THAT THE SUN RISES COLD HEARTED, CLEAR
HOW CLOSE THE NIGHT WHEN MORNING DRAWS NEAR

YESTERDAY'S SORROWS, YESTERDAY'S DREAMS
ALL OUR TOMORROWS, HOW BRIGHTLY THEY GLEAMED
BEGGED AND WE'VE BORROWED, GONE BANKRUPT AND LEAN
DO YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN
DO YOU KNOW WHAT YOU MEAN TO ME
PEOPLE LUST FOR FAME
LIKE ATHLETES IN A GAME
WE BREAK OUR COLLARBONES
AND COME UP SWINGING
SOME OF US ARE DOWNED
SOME OF US ARE CROWNED
AND SOME ARE LOST AND NEVER FOUND
BUT MOST HAVE SEEN IT ALL
THEY LIVE THEIR LIVES
IN SAD CAFES AND MUSIC HALLS
THEY ALWAYS HAVE A STORY

SOME MAKE IT WHEN THEY'RE YOUNG
BEFORE THE WORLD HAS DONE ITS DIRTY JOB
AND LATER ON, SOMEONE WILL SAY
"YOU'VE HAD YOUR DAY
YOU MUST MAKE WAY"
BUT THEY'LL NEVER KNOW THE PAIN
OF LIVING WITH A NAME YOU NEVER OWNED
OR THE MANY YEARS FORGETTING WHAT YOU KNOW TOO WELL
THAT THE ONES WHO GAVE THE CROWN
HAVE BEEN LET DOWN
YOU TRY TO MAKE AMENDS
WITHOUT DEFENDING

PERHAPS PRETENDING
YOU NEVER SAW THE EYES
OF GROWN MEN OF TWENTY-FIVE
THAT FOLLOWED AS YOU WALKED
AND ASKED FOR AUTOGRAPHS
OR KISSED YOU ON THE CHEEK
AND YOU NEVER COULD BELIEVE
THEY REALLY LOVED YOU
SOME MAKE IT WHEN THEY'RE OLD
(PERHAPS THEY HAVE A SOUL
THEY'RE NOT AFRAID TO BARE
OR PERHAPS THERE'S NOTHING THERE)

CHORUS

SOME WOMEN HAVE A BODY
MEN WILL WANT TO SEE
SO THEY PUT IT ON DISPLAY
SOME PEOPLE PLAY A FINE GUITAR
I COULD LISTEN TO THEM PLAY ALL DAY
SOME LADIES REALLY MOVE ACROSS A STAGE
AND GEE, THEY SURE CAN DANCE
I GUESS I COULD LEARN HOW
IF I GAVE IT HALF A CHANCE
BUT I ALWAYS FEEL SO FUNNY
WHEN MY BODY TRIES TO SOAR
AND I ALWAYS SEEM TO WORRY
ABOUT MISSING THE NEXT CHORD
I GUESS THERE ISN'T ANYTHING
TO PUT OUT ON DISPLAY
EXCEPT THE TUNES, AND WHATEVER ELSE I SAY
AND ANYWAY, THAT ISN'T REALLY
WHAT I MEANT TO SAY
I MEANT TO TELL A STORY
I LIVE FROM DAY TO DAY

STARS, THEY COME AND GO
THEY COME FAST OR SLOW
THEY GO LIKE THE LAST LIGHT OF THE SUN
ALL IN A BLAZE
AND ALL YOU SEE IS GLORY
HEY, BUT IT GETS LONELY THERE
WHEN THERE'S NO ONE HERE TO SHARE
WE CAN SHAKE IT AWAY
IF YOU'LL HEAR A STORY

SO IF YOU DON'T LOSE PATIENCE
WITH MY FUMBLING AROUND
I'LL COME UP SINGING FOR YOU
EVEN WHEN I'M DOWN

Hi there,

just remembered this, so I'll resurrect this thread... during High School, I dated a girl who was a big fan of the Rock classics from the 60s and 70s, and her favorite songs to make love to were Light my fire and The End by The Doors. Maybe that's a fitting addition to this thread.

There are a couple of songs I like for those intimate moments. One that comes to mind is "Born Again" by Billy Preston and Syreeta. It kinda has a dark but seductive tone to it. Another is "So Anxious" by R&B singer Ginuwine. The lyrics go something like this:

Nine O' clock, All alone, Paging you
Wishing you'd come over, my place, after while, Let me know
We can just keep talkin 'bout the last time, you were here
What we did (no sleep till morning), Only bubble baths and back rubs
Hit me back, girl I hope, you hurry 'cause

I'm so anxious
So meet me at 11:30, I love the way you're talkin' dirty
Said, I'm so anxious
Girl could you quit this stallin', you know I'm a sexaholic

That's just part of the song, but those are two that I love for those moments.

As a part-time musician with a working band, this is a tough one since like so many of you have mentioned, things change almost daily. But there are two songs I keep coming back to for entirely different reasons. One is "Wasted Time" by The Eagles/Don Henley, IMO one of the most underrated singer songwriters around right now. "Wasted Time" tries to teach us that despite all of our failures, losses and disappointments being deemed a waste of time, they are instead valuable life experiences.

"So you can get on with your search baby, And I can get on with mine. And one day maybe we will find, That it wasn't really wasted time"

The other is Johnny Cash's "Understand Your Man". If you wanna' know what all the fuss is over the dude you only know from "Ring of Fire" and "A Boy Named Sue", listen to this song. And then tell me you've never been this pissed off at your partner.

"You'd say the same old thing that you been sayin' all along, So just lay there in your bed and keep your mouth shut till I'm gone. No don't give me that old familiar cryin' cuss and moan, understand your man"

Rather than what songs work for me, a man, I am always astonished at what songs automatically work for women on the dance floor late in the evening. Put women in a romantic setting and even a terminal geek can score like James Bond. Anyone who has ever been to a tropical resort like Hedonism II or III, Sandals, Club Med (et.al.) know what I mean. An ocean, a few palm frawns, toss in some soft illumination and some Tiki torches, and suddenly women are lubricating enough to grease a Boeing 747. In this sexually charged atmosphere, a few guarenteed old leg spreading classics sure to get her begging:

Eric Clapton- Wonderful Tonight. (A DJ at a resort once mistakenly played the wrong cut, Tears In Heaven, and ruined an hour of musical foreplay.)

Righteous Brothers- Unchained Melody. If you are not brain dead by the one millionth playing of this romantic ballad, a sure fire deal closer.

Johnny Mathis- True Love Ways. Every time I hear this ooey-goey female song at a resort, I think ex-president Bill Clinton is behind the stage curtain playing riffs on the tenor sax to his latest rendition of Monica Lewinsky in the audience.

Dolly Parton- I Will Always Love You. Brings tears to women's eyes and looks of bewilderment to men's who wonder what the Hell they did wrong to ruin the mood.

O.K. There are a few musical suggestions.

I adore "A Case of You." I have a version of it I found with Tori Amos singing it, but I like the origional best thus far.
