I've only done it a couple times, with an improvised cooler method. The meat turned out great!

For those who have never heard of it, cooking in a vacuum sealed bag in hot water.
Want your steak cooked to 130F? Set the water temp to that and it cannot over-cook.
Then sear with some really hot heat for the browned appearance! I used a propane torch last time.
Hot grill or frying pan works well also.

Anyway, I was shopping at Aldi today and they have 800 Watt models for $49.99
Sure enough, my grocery bill increased by another $50. :)

Can't wait to try it on some chicken or a beef roast.

Anyone else have one?

Does the fat still render out during cooking? For instance on a steak..grilling renders the marbling..how does that work sous vide? Maybe next time, could you photo the process and post here? Thanks.

Sous vide is the next thing I wanted to check out but still trying to master my Instant Pot. From my understanding, the meat will still be sitting in the fat since it is a closed bag but from what I have read this is the definitive method for cooking perfect steaks. I would be interested in hearing what other types of food are practical using this nethod before I get yet another kitchen appliance.

I've done it and I don't like it.

Let's cook food in a non-biodegradable condom that will end up in land fill.

Pass.

The fat will render out, but because it is in a sealed up bag, that and the butter and whatever seasonings you put in there will keep the meat juicy. Trust me, it is great!

I'll also be buying some scallops, shrimp and lobster soon. Don't want to over-cook seafood. Can't do that when the temperature never exceeds your desired doneness!

I read that veggies work great also, but I have not tried them yet.

As far as posting pictures, I'll be 63 years old in January. I'm pretty computer illiterate and have no smart phone.
You would be better off with Google or Youtube.

To get my pic added to Facebook, I had to have my Daughter over to get it done.

For some reason, she might not understand me posting on LPSG! I'll leave it at that.
