I've been planning this for some time, and it's approaching rapidly!
And I'm so excited! :biggrin1:

I've gotten all of the vaccinations I might need, almost packed my bags and now I'm ready to go do my thing with two good friends of mine.

 It should be a worthwhile and amazing experience.

I'll be leaving you, my LPSG lovers, on the afternoon of the 4th this month, returning to the site probably somewhere between the 20th and 23rd (depending on whether we feel like exploring London when we get back)

Good for you, Dumbcow. Where are you going in SE Asia?

I lived there for a few years, first in Tokyo, then in Hong Kong. Loved every minute of it. I was a product manager for China with a large corporation and got to travel extensively. Thailand has always been my favorite but there's much more to see.

Malaysia's great, Singapore is interesting but sterile, Nepal is cool (there's always Spam's Bar) but don't miss Bangkok (appropriately named?). For excitement go to Patpong I or II. Some of the most amazing shows - read sex - that you will find anywhere this side of our known galaxy. Watch out for T-boys unless that's something that interests you. Watch your money, leave your passport somewhere safe, bring lots of condoms or go to a restaurant named Cabbages & Condoms. It's run by the Planned Parenthood Assoc. and has the wildest assortment of condoms ever assembled and good food as well.

Have fun - of course, you'd have to try real hard not to.

Let me know if I can be of help.

Good point, Industrial. This time of the year you can reasonably expect your clothes to mildew even as you're wearing them. Have a Singha for me. nd stop in at the Crown Royal on Patpong II and say Hello. For whom I don't know. Hell, for that matter stop in anywhere and say Hello for anybody.

Southeast Asia is a big place-I need more information for my files.

:biggrin1: Indonesia, to be exact  I'm doing voluntary work for one week, being a tourist for the next

That sounds so exciting. Enjoy and be safe!

 Thank you

Thanks for the advice  I know that Indonesia is a slightly less obvious place for a Brit to go, but I've always wanted to travel the world and I might as well start things early on
I don't intend to do any mature type stuff, just enjoy my time there
I was given a vaccination for Hepatitis A a while back as that was strongly recommended (We have been planning this for quite some time)

I will definately take your advice to keep money/passports safe. I know that some people might find it hard to resist an English guy who probably has a big wad of money in his pocket.

One of my friends used to live in Thailand, and I'm just going to hope he knows what to do.

I love Thailand......but a word of warning...be prepared for it to be REALLY HOT!!!!!!!!!!!!.....and it's not a dry heat:eek:

 I've been told about the temperature and I think I'm prepared for it, as I have travelled to very hot places before. I doubt we'll go out in the heat of the day.

 Will do! I'm not too bad in hot weather. I'll make sure to drink plenty of water and not to get myself sunburned. I've never been a fan of scorching sun, but in the past I've put up with it pretty well. I won't let the weather ruin it for me.

Shingha... I'll remember that

but.............Cows DONT Fly...
you told me that..and i believed...

CONGATULATIONs Dc'
Have a Safe and Wonderful Trip'
enz

 Thanks rbkwp, I hate flying!! But it'll be worth it

Too bad you aren't visiting India, I understand you would be worshiped like a god there...

Maybe next time.

I hope you didn't have trouble attaining a Free from Mad Cow Disease Certificate. I'm sure the folks in Asia are careful about those things.

Have a great time.

BTW - does the airline you chose have a big enough barf bag for 4 stomachs?

Let us know where in Indonesia. It's another place I like a lot. Have two friends there. Both in Bali. Kevin is a hotel manager and Oak runs the Duty Free Shoppers operation. Or, at least, did when I talked to him last.

Have fun and Godspeed.

Going to do some cross cultural studies with water buffalo?

(and in your case vaccination is a pun, it means getting en-cowed.:biggrin1:)

Thanks  I forged one of those certificates
I think I'll just borrow four barf bags  (I'll probably need them as well - I get all shaky in those planes!)

Have fun Dumbcow, bring us some pictures of your trip.

 Alrighty then, I may take a few snaps

I wish I could go with you. Have fun.

 Thank you :biggrin1:

Thanks  I'll be staying mostly on the islands of Java (In both Surabaya and Jakarta) and Sumatra. I understand that Java is the most heavily populated island in Indonesia.

Jakarta is incredibly crowded, traffic snarled and still interesting. Sumatra is cool. Neat small towns like Bukkittingi at the base of an active volcano (Gunung Merapi but it last erupted in 1979 so no worries), an orangutan rehabilitation center - Gunung Leuser Nat'l Forest. No, not substance abuse - orphaned orangs who have to be taught how to survive in the wild. Pick up a copy of Lonely Planet's Indo Guide. Best guide book on the market.

Selamat berjalan
(Have a good trip)
