Well, bugger me dead, apparently they do...How Much Air Pollution Is Produced by Rockets?

But to what extent...no-one knows how much. You would think with all the science involved..global warming etc, someone would have done some indepth research by now. It came into my thinking when our PM decided to pledge 150 mill to space research on reaching Mars.

Now, I'm pretty sure Mars or the Moon are not going to go anywhere anytime soon. So I'm wondering why don't we spend the dollars on fixing up the place where we live first...what with all the plastic in the oceans, climate warming, war, etc, etc, etc.

It's not like we were living in the 60's and it was a race to see who could get to the moon first. The population of the Earth has nearly doubled since then, there was no issue with climate warming, depletion of the ozone, poison water wells and rivers, lead pollution...plastic choking our oceans and many nations launching space crap into orbit. Leaving it there to choke up further launches in the future..

Our science tells us, we can't find an answer to ridding the plastic, we can't find a reasonable answer to rid space of the junk we put up there, nor easy ways to fix or repair a depleting Ozone...........yet science tells us we need to go to Mars......Ok....Yay, let's do eeeet. :)

Yes especially solid rocket fuel/boosters. When the Space Shuttle was being built in the late 1970s it was estimated that each launch would destroy at least one quarter of one percent of the ozone layer.

Not that we shouldn't always be vigilant for new problems but most the chemistry of atmospheric degradation (I almost wrote ruin) has been know for a long time.

They don't put any money into it because it's not a problem. Don't you think if it was a real issue we would be doing something about it.
Also. There is no space junk because every rocket they send up levels off and crashes into the ocean. There are no orbiting objects. Breaks the laws of acceleration. They're lying to us.
