Once again, the America puibic is being sold a bill of goods. Bush is on record as in favor of marrige between a man and a woman. He is also in favor of civil unions with all the same legal rights and prevledges as married people. So, if that be the case, it comes to samantics, marriage between man and woman; civil union between two people of the same gender. However, Bush can spout off all this amendment stuff knowing it isn&#39;t going to happen.

It takes a 2/3 majority in both houses to propose a constitution amendment and then 3/4 of the states must ratify it. Bush knows that there will never be a marriage amendment so he can go and off and spout all he wants to. It is relatively safe politically. No marriage amendment will meets those strict guidelines. Meanwhile, I believe gay and lesbian couuples will eventually be given civil unions with all the rights and privledges of marriage. It will take several years, but I believe it will happen.

It&#39;s interesting that the rest of the world seems to handle change better than we do.

Dr. Rock is right, but Spain&#39;s small step is a step in the right direction. At least Dub&#39;ya had no opportunity to call for a constitutional amendment to outlaw it.

for all you who dont live in CA, we are close to getting the state legislature to passing a bill to legalize gay/lesbian marriage. The governor, Arnold, is in such a weakened position politically, that he may feel it necessary to sign the bill into law if his poll numbers dont improve. CA continues to have to lead most of the rest of the U.S. into the 21st century.....

I thought, if passed it was a "civil unions" law and very specifically worded to NOT be a "marriage" bill? What rights, under the law, might be guaranteed and denied? And Ahhhnorld, will vote which ever way the wind blows, won&#39;t he? But I hope and pray that CA passes even a modified rights bill.
