Speaking of hugs and hugging....

I will say that I am a natural born hugger. With my friends and family hugging is as natural as saying hello and goodbye. It's weird if it doesn't happen. But I've also lived long enough to know not all people are comfortable with hugging. So what I've trained myself to do - especially with strangers - is to offer my hand in a shake. If they go in for the hug, all bets are off and they get a big bear hug in return.

I don't think her discomfort with being hugged was quite as bad as it seems to be with you. If I had noticed she was genuinely that uncomfortable with being hugged, I wouldn't have continued, but it was kinda obvious that there was some part of her that seemed to enjoy it.
