The Sexual Health Benefits of Horny Goat Weed
Horny Goat Weed (also known as Epimedium) is an ornamental plant/herb that is commonly used to treat a variety of health conditions and ailments. Some of the more popular uses for which the herb is used are: to increase libido in men and women, improve erectile function in men, restore sexual vitality, stimulate and tone the muscles of the pelvic floor (intensifying ejaculation), increase sperm production, stimulate sensory nerves in the sexual organs, stimulate hormone secretions, and increase sperm count & density.
There most active components of Epimedium are a variety of flavonoids (antioxidants), a flavonol called icariin, and lignans. Epimedium contains several flavonoids, some of which have been shown to inhibit estrogen.
Many researchers believe that Epimedium's estrogen blocking activity is the primary reason that it is so successful at boosting libido. Some flavonoids have also been shown to have anti-cancer effects by helping to eliminate mutagens and carcinogens.

Kills Cancer Cells
Many older adults develop endometrial cancer, according to a July 2011 report in "Gynecologic Oncology." More than 53 percent of such women die from this relatively common form of cancer. An investigation presented in the March 2011 issue of "PLoS One" looked at the impact of icaritin --
a chemical derived from Epimedium -- on cultured cancer cells. The researchers exposed endometrial cells to icaritin during a single testing session. Relative to control cells, icaritin-treated cancer cells were more likely to die. The Epimedium product also facilitated the release of chemicals known to inhibit cancer growth.
