It took three blows with the pensioner's crutch to kill the errant critter, so it clearly meant business.

Following its departure from this mortal coil, the ex-squirrel was examined to see whether it was a case of rabies, but the results came back negative.

A leading German animal behaviorist believes that the squirrel - one of a litter of five that had been hand-reared by a local woman before being released into the wild - had come into heat for the first time, and was seeking to claim the 70-year-old woman as his own, while also defending what he perceived as his territory against other males.

You see, it doesn't matter what subject a thread begins with at LPSG... before you have time to shake the life out of a deranged squirrel, the discussion inevitably turns to sex.

Full text of follow-up news report on the squirrel's sex-lust (German language only).

You can't hang about when there are rampaging rodents to be discussed!

More specifically... it crawled inside his shorts ... so it must have thought it had the nuts within its grasp.

But seriously, who knows what would have happened if the pensioner hadn't had a crutch with him?!!

The other interesting thing.. is that the squirrel was one of a litter of five. Which to my mind indicates the possibility of a sequel or two, as with all good monster movies.  :biggrin1:

This species lives near my home. They are as aggressive and dangerous as grisly bears. I once saw one of these squirells jump from a tree and land on a fellow's back. It tore his ear off and ran away with it into the brush.
