Star Trek for me. It's actual science fiction and often plausible as it explores theoretical scientific boundaries. I enjoyed all the TV shows, especially the original series, TNG, and Enterprise, and love the new reboot feature films. Spot on casting.

Star Wars is more of a fairytale than it is science fiction. Add, Lucas burned the franchise to the fucking ground with his terrible Episodic 1-3 trilogy. The latest installment was a huge improvement but it's going to take more than one film to bring me back onboard. To be perfectly honest Star Wars ended for me when Luke destroyed the Death Star. Everything after that was a sell out, a god damn Happy Meal toy.

I love Data; but for someone like this I could easily change over to Star Wars

Maybe I just need a fan to snuggle on the sofa with who'll be good enough to explain the nuance, beauty and meaning
to me.;)

Deal, I am an excellent explainer; and and I will bring wine, popcorn and chocolate. In case we need a snack :D

Lol..you have a point.once Lucas saw the marketing opportunity he milked it for all it was worth...cough...Ewoks...cough..
But after Return of the Jedi in '83 the lives(and the death of chewie)
Continued on in novels and comic books.
Lucas had no part in writing any of them so they were great.
There was even a comic series that took place 100 years after Jedi.but all that 30 plus years of extended history got wiped away once Lucas sold in the rights to Disney...what a shame because the various villains from the novels and comics would've been great to see on the big screen.
Although the element of Han and Leia's son being a Sith Lord did happen in the novels(he didn't kill Han,but he was later killed by his twin sister in a great lightsaber battle with additional fight training she got from the mandilorians..a.k.a Boba Fett's peeps)
Most of the Trek novels were great too.the cartoon series from the 70's was the shit.plus the cast of the original t.v series did the voices.
The novels Shatner wrote were hilarious in the sense that only Kirk could save the day..lol...I still enjoyed them.
Shatner and Michael Jordan are my two favorite arrogant jerks I love to hate.

I've tried both but I love Star Wars to no end. I do prefer the books. I like the Space Fairytale styles. Movies are great but I love reading.

Star trek is OK. It's SciFi. A bit hard to follow for me but still it'll scratch that weird but fun nerdiness itch. I can respect my fellow/opposing nerd brethren.

But I'll personally always have my heart in Star Wars.

Star Trek. I've liked it from the start in all the television series and most of the movies were enjoyable.

Star Trek gives me plenty of variety and feels more realistic than Star Wars ever has.

Star Wars for Harrison Ford. Star Trek for Chris Pine!
I will counter with Uhura and Yeoman Rand from Star Trek, plus Couselor Troi, Seven of Nine, and T'Pol from the other shows.
Gold bikini clad Princess Leia, and Oona the dancer from Star Wars.

Having seen every episode or film of both franchises at original release (yeah, I'm that old) I choose Star Trek. I love both, but the characters in ST, especially STTNG, are much more accesible and lovable. Like many here I'm a huge fan of Picard, Worf, and Data, and I wish Tasha had hung around. Other than the third season, which was written by gerbils, I have a fondness for the original series that comes from being a youngster whose other TV SF choice was Lost in Space. I really wanted to be Will Robinson, but when Kirk, Spock, and McCoy came on the scene I was hooked.

That said, one of the greatest film experiences of my life was the premiere of The Empire Strikes Black at the Avco in Westwood in 1980. With four friends, I drove down from Santa Barbara to see a 10 PM showing. The line went around several blocks and to add versimilitude to an otherwise bald and unconvincing narrative I will simply say that once we got into the theatre early the next morning, the cheering as the titles rolled and the gasps and exclamations from the packed house as Luke flew over the snow of Thoth are indelibly fixed in my aging brain.

Personally I think the episode of Star Trek Voyager where Reg Barclay persits he can contact Voyager is one of he best episodes of all the Star Trek timelines :)
