Congratulations to all americans for having used your democratic right to vote in the elections.

While there is always going to be different opinions and views on things, I sincerely hope your 46th president can help restore decency to the political debate.

To an non-american it's so very obvious that the lack of objectivity and impartial news in US media is the reason why so many ordinary citizens have been lead to accept outright lies and superstitions rather than factual and correct information.

News should always be unbiased, objective and impartial and allow for all sides of a argument to be heard.

Public service media is crucial if a country's citizens are going to be able to form a independant and informed view on political matters. Unfortunately, public service is under attack by right wing politicians in many countries around the world, such as Poland and Hungary and something the citizens in most non-democratic countries, such as Russia and China never have had access to. They are told what their non-democratically politicians want them to be told. Those of us to be fortunate enough to be living in a open, free and democratic country really need to stand up and defend democracy or we will risk losing it.

In the USA we've been given another chance to save and defend democracy. I hope that we use this second chance wisely.

Yes, congratulations to all those who got out and voted. It is your obligation to do so in a democracy. Here in Australia, voting is compulsory. And so it should be. If you want the advantages of a democracy then you should be an active participant in it. Not voting is paramount to saying you don't value democracy and the advantages it brings.

In their speeches today, both Biden and Harris opened their hearts and minds to a more collegiate America, inviting voters on either side of the current political divide to join them in a shared vision for a better, more decent, more caring America. As an Australian, I urge all Americans to turn their backs on the past four years and look to a future where collaboration is core to rebuilding America.

Trump and his (narcissistic, cruel, derisive) cult of personality are never going to go away. I live in a conservative area and there was a crowd of people at an intersection praying for Trump to win (this was today...its over people).

70,000,000 people are still firmly behind Trump and everything he stands for. My fear is that this country will only become more divided, as the Senate has too much power and now our courts are full of Trump appointees.

I hope Biden can restore some order and decency again but I'm not holding my breath. He has a history of siding with corporate interests and he has stated that he has no intention of overhauling our pathetically broken health care system. I'm hoping to one day gain EU citizenship to be honest

A goal I share with you. I recall a few years ago when Tina Turner surrendered her US citizenship to live in Switzerland. Now what does that say when a person of such fame and fortune does that? Fast forward to the Trump years where now we have Trump and his cult chanting “send her back” to congress members of color. Can you blame them or anyone that has had enough?

I'm sorry but even after all that has occurred I don't believe that. Many? ABSOLUTELY. TOO many? Seventy million plus? For sure. But ALL? No. Can't buy that.

Given how the U.S. political system is designed (e.g. the electoral college and the Senate) that a minority can triumph over the majority time and time again does it matter?

Yeah.... I think it matters... to those who don't fit the bill. Look at the people in the streets this weekend... of all races. Do they look like they want America to be a failed state?

What they want and what they get isn't the same thing. They may not want a failed state but the given the constraints of the political system (what it takes to change the Constitution; two-thirds House, Senate & state legislatures) and red tribalism the likelihood of any affective change is zero. What's pretty clear since Reagan is they want every government program hence governing to fail or at least be nothing more than a sham to funnel money to the rich.
