Has anyone ever been? Thinking of going when I'm in Chicago. I'd like to be pretty low key when there, really just hang out and see what's going on.

What's your experience there, beginning to end? I'd be a newbie so I don't really know much about the process. I'd prefer to not have to buy a membership (I just don't want mail and email from them trying to sell me stuff...).

What are weekend afternoons like?

I visit Chicago every now and then and always wanted to go there as well. But I'm scared lol.... Would love to see what other people have to say about that place.
I'll be in Chicago in 2 weeks and might actually grow a pair to check it out.

I read online that sometimes people come by and force themselves on you. Is that true?
No one can force you to do anything. It’s okay to tell someone to move on. You don’t have to be rude, just be confident.
I prefer smooth guys. Sometimes a very hairy guy will come along and show interest, I just say I’m waiting for someone. It’s true and not hurtful. It’s okay to say. No.

I visit Chicago a few times a year and always try to hit this place. I find it well run, clean and large for a bathhouse. I always have a good time. Yeah, grow a pair and go! Enjoy.

I'm in Chicago for a few days. Been chatting with a few people online on Grindr and they say that it's a breeding place for HIV and drugs. A few months ago they found a man dead because of an overdose. Kinda scary to go cause I'm a little new to all this. o_O

I once felt as the OP does. "I'm curious, but apprehensive". Sure, it's a bit awkward at first, as is any new environment, but I was pleasantly surprised. Steamworks Chicago is well run and very well kept. There's a lot of square footage spanning three floors. I wasn't expecting it to be as nice as it is.

I found most everyone there to be respectful, and it's very unlikely that anyone is going to force themselves on another. Sure, offers were extended, but as another wrote, a polite decline will suffice.

If you want to go to explore, you should. You'll either like it or you won't. Hang out in the hot tub or the steam room and watch the comings and goings. If you rent a locker, it's about $8.00 - a small investment to satisfy your curiosity. I found it to be a captivating environment. Let's be honest - everyone there is there for the same reason more or less, and that is to be enveloped in a sexualized environment. But how you decide to act within that is up to you.

My two visits there were on the weekend and there were a lot of guys there, but it wasn't crowded. I like the place and I'll go again.
Check in, get a key and store your valuables in the locker at the front desk. Grab a couple of towels, store your clothing, and go for a walk. A central staircase anchors the three floors. The main floor has a large hot tub (pool, really), showers, steam room, and sauna. A sound system and DJ keep the music going throughout the building.

Upstairs there are private rooms and public spaces. A little something for everyone, including those who just want to watch. When I was there wasn't any one specific demographic. Rather a wide range of ages, body types, and ethnicities.

^ Do they make you get a membership? This would be like a one day thing for me. Do they take your personal info and then spam you with emails/junk mail?

Nothing to prevent you from accidentally transposing a few letters in your email address if they ask for it.
I’ve never received solicitations from any of the bath houses I’ve visited.
I have created a junk email address for websites that require one. I can “activate” my account and then rarely check that email except to mass delete.

Legally, it's a private club, so yes, a membership is required. They ensure you have a valid ID and that's that. Being that their business thrives on discretion, there is no outbound communication.

I’ve been with my ex. It is what you make it to be. We have went several times just to go and have not ended up doing anything. Chicagopole gives you a good idea of what it is like. My advice is go on a Sunday afternoon if possible it may not be as busy and it will give you a chance to explore without as many guys around.

That’s great advice to get a feel for the place - no pun intended.

Has anyone been to the Toronto Steamworks? I have often thought about going, but haven't worked up the courage.
