I don't know...I honestly didn't notice it at the time the movie came out. The shorts were pretty short back then. And tight. Regular pants were fairly tight in the crotch, too. I think people were used to it and didn't pay much attention. It only seems shocking to us now because we've gotten used to big, baggy shorts that became popular in the early 90s.

I was never really attracted to Steve Guttenberg. He was just too goofy and a bit annoying. However, I did think he had great legs, which those short shorts he wore in Cocoon certainl showed off. One of the most memorable scenes in Cocoon was when he was in the pool with the female alien and she "shared her soul" with him--or something like that--and he basically had an orgasm.
