STI prevalence in gay hookup culture

Hello everyone,
I am very new to the gay/bi hookup scene. I have taken part in 3 separate “hookups” over the last couple of months, but before then, nothing.
These hookups involved kissing and oral sex only and some rubbing of penis to anus but no insertion. That’s the context.

I have recently tested positive for chlamydia and gonnorhaea - no judgement please. I have commenced treatment.

I certainly did not have these infections before these three events, I am 100% sure if that.

My question is, am I just unlucky to have been infected from my first taste of hookup culture, taking part in low risk activities. Or is this something that is expected and people in the hookup scene have come to just accept - that if you have more than one sexual partner you will likely catch something??

It's better to target guys on PreP as it usually requires testing every 3 months to maintain the prescription.

It's not at all a guarantee against catching something, but that and using condoms helps immensely.
