Yeah, "freak out" may be an understatement.
My first time was also with a virgin girl. It was long before the internet, but we were 23 and expected "a few drops of blood". Between inexperience and over-eagerness and nervousness, it was rather painful to get it in. (The cherry itself wasn't too bad, but it hurt enough that her vagina clamped down and when I pushed in all the way she started to cry.) She cried through the whole first time, which mercifully ended very quickly. The sensations, both physical and mental, were incredibly intense and in less than a minute I had completely finished cumming inside her.
When I pulled out, it looked like there was blood all over "down there". Now, it probably wasn't as much as she loses during her period, and nowhere near qualifying as a medical emergency, but it was a LOT more than I expected! I was truly afraid I had done something wrong and injured her. Fortunately, I had a basin of warm water and a washcloth all ready. She just laid there and thought it was very soothing and loving as I cleaned her up. She never saw the mess.
In the larger scheme of things it didn't matter very much. We cuddled and snoozed for a bit, then went for ice cream. After that - just a couple hours after that "traumatic" first time - she wanted to do it again! A total of 5 times in 24 hours, as I recall.
