Spare a thought for the young man brave enough to buy a pair of silk boxers with little pink hearts on who was told by the assistant "Sir, I don't think those are your size." when he had to respond "They're not for me!".

I treasure them to this day.

I'm really having a difficult time understanding this thread. I thought I had heard of every phobia known to mankind...But WTF... I'll pass on a little advice my father gave me when I was 13... Never give a damn about what other people think about you unless they are paying your bills. When you get over this I'll meet you at an "Adult" store presuming you are over 21 and we can buy cock rings, lube, a leather harness and porn. At the Leather Man in NYC you can even come out of the fitting room and get the shop mans opinion.
Good Luck

I only meant that I'd rather buy my underwear from another guy, because usually buy my underwear at department stores rather than target/wal mart, and I think that guys should work in men's departments- I guess I like that tradition of tailors who do the alterations for the men who make purchases in their store... it seems like one man should dress another when it comes to clothing. If I ever get married, maybe I will switch the responsibility of picking out my clothes (and "dressing me" aka laying my clothes out in the morning for me to wear...) to my wife- until then I'd rather it be another guy if it's up to me.

A couple years ago I purchased a beautiful black suit for my sister's wedding- and I went to a few stores to do some comparison shopping. Nordstrom finally gave the best service- and I enjoyed being "dressed" by my sales men (2 nice young men) and being checked for alterations by the store tailor. It felt very traditional- very much a man's club- and it was cool.

So hopefully in that light it's not so wierd. I bet there are others out there like me.

It is only as awkward as you make it. Underwear is a part of life (for most people. Yes, i am 'most people'.) If you're awkward about it, it will be awkward. The people behind the counter see it all the time. It's not like you're naked when you're paying for them (i hope)(where would you keep your money?).

If you're nervous about it, i'm guessing you have a somewhat conservative upbringing and it is paralizing you. The cashier probably won't even say anything to you unless they are hitting on you for it. My advice is to walk with your head high, shoulders squared away and your purchase in your hand. you'll be fine.

What's wrong with buying underwear?

Surely the salesperson will notice and make comments if you appear to be buying something indecent.

They sell many pieces of clothings to care and it's normal, isn't it? If you wear underwear, you buy it yourself. And if you need a t-shirt then go ahead, buy it.

But buying a t-shirt because you need boxers does not make sense to me. I would have cared when I was 10 or 11. But not as an adult.

hey guys!

i was just wondering if you saw some boxers like at Abercrombie or American Eagle... would u buy them if you were by yourself? would you buy a shirt or something so ur not just buying boxers?

how do u go about buying boxers on your own. PLEASE STATE YOUR AGE WHEN POSTING! THANKS!

Yes off course, why not, it is underwear. I'm not ashamed for buying underwear, I find buying socks more idiot then underwear :biggrin1:.

Why asking age, look in my profile.

Well I go to the city, step into a shop, choose underwear, seeing if there is that specific underwear in my size and buy it. Simple, isn't it. The werid thing is, I do this with all my clothes

I get what you're saying because when I was a university student, I worked in a men's casual clothing store. The store hired mostly men to work there because a lot of guys prefer to get clothing advice from other guys. If the male customers wanted female input, they would usually bring their girlfriends along. I had a lot of repeat male customers and was asked everything imaginable about the kind of clothing we sold - especially underwear. Questions such as "How does it hold your package?" were not that uncommon when men were underwear shopping. A guy wouldn't ask a females sales clerk that question because first of all she wouldn't know (if she could answer that question I would be very afraid) and secondly because it's just not an appropraite question to ask someone of the opposite sex. It would be as ridiculous as a woman asking a male sales clerk how a particular bra supports her breasts.

I agree with your statement that it feels very traditional and like a man's club. Guys don't always want to do everything with women even if they are 100% straight. There's nothing wierd about that. Sometimes guys just want to be with and around other guys. I remember going clothes shopping with one of my buddies years ago. He was in a seriously monogamous relationship with a woman, but he asked me to go clothes shopping with him. It was a cool experience - and I hate shopping! It was cool to just be spending time with my friend without his incredibly possessive and controlling girlfriend around.

WHY!!! (the age thing?)
One of the Most incredible Demands i have seen on a thread?

I have always brought my own and would buy them for ANY/ALL Males who choose not to buy there own (for whatever reason-- and i can imagine some folk would have quite important reasons for not wanting to have anything to do with such)
fr inst..an overly dominating Mother who has for his entire life made a BIG Issue re such')

I'll play along with this goofy thread. I'm 35, and I'm bisexual, and when I wore underwear daily, I bought them on my own. I still wear underwear now and then, just not nearly as much as I used to, so therefore, I don't shop for underwear as often. As far as I know, buying any piece of clothing isn't an issue for me. Do you think that due to buying less frequently, that I'll develop a phobia of buying underwear? People who suffer with this phobia should just go commando. Its a hell of a lot more comfortable anyway.

Most of the time the counter assistant is either chatting with her mate whilst serving you, Bored, got an hangover, watching the clock to finish etc to notice what you are buying anyway. Counter service is not what it used to be. Anyway, i ask, i buy, i pay- no problem.

Hmmm I wonder if the poster has an issue when buying Condoms? Do you go to the drugstore? or find the coin operated machine at the Shell mens room?

I hate Abercrombie & Fitch boxers, they're so damn uncomfortable. I like American Eagle boxers and Old Navy boxer briefs. American Eagle boxers are cozy but not so loose. Old Navy boxer briefs are perfect for wearing long days at work or school. To me, briefs are too confining and boxers are just a cloth cover for your dick while your balls slap around on your legs.
