I already mentioned the guy in Madame Zora's gallery. Other than him, just a few here and there that I don't remember names for. Um... AndrewEndowed I think was pretty big. There's some guy that I believe incorporates 11x7 or 10x7 in his handle somehow and pics actually look the part. My memory is horrible... give me a break.

I didn't make a definitive statement. I said "lately I am thinking..."

And what I'm thinking now is that not only will I most likely not renew my Gold Member status, I'm actually going to take down my gallery and leave the forum. It seems I really can't say anything without people assuming the worst of my intentions, and I'm not interested in that.

Ganymede, I think like all of us, you tend to universalize your own experience. This thread, along with some others of yours, would make more sense to me if it were about you rather than about all guys.

Fuck other people's assumptions! Stay, please; you're contributing.

That's kind of you to say that. Thank you for that. But I don't feel comfortable sharing my thoughts, thoughts that mean a lot to me, in a venue prone to snide remarks and unkind assumptions.

Maybe if someone starts another forum where we are allowed to talk philosophy, etc., without being attacked, then I'll join that one.

Mate, it's philosophy that lured me into the very nature of the universe... and I'll tell you that every philosophy forum i've been to was a argumentative warground. If they cannot attack your views, they will attack you directly.

If you chance upon a place where we can simply ~discuss~ philosophy,.. please do share it with me.

Okay, I've decided to stay, but I'm just not going to get in any more of these types of discussions. It's too exhausting to say something, have it attacked, misquoted, and then continually have to reinvent the wheel.

I'll stay, but I'm not going to start anymore threads, and I'm not going to get in anymore discussions. Plus, my penis pictures are gone. I had a hard time taking myself seriously while my wee-wee was at the left.

Okay, okay, I've decided to stay. But no more debating for me. I'll just sort of be a lurker and occasional poster from now on.

Unkind assumptions are just part of life, dude. and snide remarks are just part of being on the internet along with a bunch of assholes empowered by anonymity. You'll have to get used to both eventually. Glad you decided to stay.

That's true. The anonymity provides people with the abililty to be mean without feeling vulnerable in return.

I guess I have to accept that some of my views are, at best, very much on the margins of the mainstream. When a person talks about topics and perspectives that are relatively obscure, I suppose one has to accept that misinterpretations are inevitable. Also, I think it's human nature to be afraid of new things. So, when I come in here with ideas that others haven't seen before, it's inevitable that I get attacked here and there.

Then again, given that it's the Internet, being attacked is itself inevitable now and then.

I think I just need to stop starting threads. That makes me a focus of comments more than anything else. I'll just respond to others' threads from now on.

But the thing is that I m not universalizing my own experiencs....

Every post or thread I start on this forum would be prefaced with, "Lately, I am thinking...." And then each statement could end with, "Do you agree with these thoughts?"

So, for example, I start this thread, come back to see what others are thinking, and I have a bunch of defensive attacks, and then I have you telling me I'm "universalizing" my own experiences. I wasn't. I was sharing my own experiences in hopes that others would share theirs for comparison. I never declared this outright because I thought it went without saying. I didn't think it needed to be said.

I suppose that what this resulted in was others thinking I was trying to force my opinions on them, and me thinking others are attacking me simply for attempting to initiate discussion of a new topic.

Thanks.

You can post philosophy here. But if it's just feeble BS cloaked as philosophy, somebody might detect it, and then an attack or two would not be out of the question. But post it, you can.

Well, nothing I've posted is feeble BS in my opinion. But, as the other guy pointed out, attacks are so common on the Internet that it's inevitable here. The answer is I'm just not going to bring up these issues anymore. I'm leaving this thread too. Bye.

I've found this sort of painstaking effort to appear unpretentious to be highly useful if your goal is to avoid being attacked for your ideas. Though I don't really give a shit anymore and am open to people yelling at me, back when I cared and I used to make posts to a different forum I would typically end each of my posts with the phrase "of course, just my opinion, you realize"... I found with these simple words I could say even the most inflammatory of things and the negative response would be greatly reduced. If you appear open to all ideas and opinions and don't come off as preachy... then other people will not be nearly as threatened by the fact that your opinions don't agree 100% with their own.

I have a good number of straight male friends, several with whom, at some point, I have discussed "The Penis" as a general topic of conversation. Based on these conversations, I believe that Ganymede offers a valid generalization.

I think it makes sense, when you think about it. It is not unlike a very staright female (or a totally gay man, for that matter) appreciating a beautiful pair of breasts, even though there is no sexual attraction to them. I believe that most of us will concede that the sexual orientations of individuals are at varrying points along a wide continuum of "totally straight" at one end to "totally gay" at the other end. Sure, there are many men (here at LPSG and elsewhere) who are accurately labeled as straight, but whose apprecaition of The Penis goes in the direction of some degree of sexual attraction. (Less so for some, more so for others.) However, I have no problem believing that a totally straight man could "respect" and even admire another man's penis without being sexaully attracted to it or to him.

Ganymede, I'm sorry if I offended you or hurt your feelings. I honestly wasn't trying to flame you. It's just that when I read the premise of your opening post, it didn't seem quite on target in my view - the different ways gay and straight guys (not to mention bi) think about cock are a lot more nuanced as I perceive it. And then it struck me that if what you meant was that you felt "respect" for cock but not attraction, and for example that's why you are interested in being on this site as a straight guy, or something to that effect, all of a sudden it all made a lot more sense to me. And I've had similar thoughts reading some of your other stuff. That was really all I meant.

There is plenty of room for different opinions and philosophies here. But yeah, people are going to disagree and challenge and debate and sometimes flame. I can understand that you may or may not want to get involved with all that; it's up to you. But no need to stop philosophizing on my account. I'm just one dude with an opinion like the rest of us.
