I saw a guy recently who was wearing satin boxers but then had the waistband of a pair of briefs underneath. Have you worn more than one pair of underwear at a time? Why? I don't understand why this guy was doing that.

Today I wore a jockstrap under a pair of tighty whities. Haven't done that in a while. I have also worn a jock under boxers. I do that cuz I like the "energy" a jock seems to give me, but I don't want to be bareassed under my pants at work. However, I would not wear briefs under boxers.

This was common back in the late 80's and early 90's as boxers were becoming popular and the "in" think to wear, but many guys weren't used to the loose feeling of boxers. These guys wanted to look of boxers around their peers, but didn't want to go "full monty" I remember seeing tightie whitie bands poking up from behind a layer of boxers frequently when I was in high school and college during those times.

I think this is where underwear makers got the idea for the boxer-brief.

I think this is where underwear makers got the idea for the boxer-brief.
In the early '60s, Sears published a catalog and sold a large percentage of goods through their catalog. I used to like to look at the men and boys underwear section. There was an item called a "mid length brief" that was identical to what we know today as boxerbriefs. They only came in white. Hanes, FTL, and Jockey took that old catalog item that never sold well, offered it in colors as well as white, gave it a new, snappy name that contained the word "boxer", and the younger generation was all over it.

I have seen this before. I had a good friend when I was real young who was most likely an accident as he was almost 10 years younger than his next youngest brother. I remember when we were like 7 or 8 seeing his underwear dropped in the bathroom and almost always briefs inside boxers.
This goes to show how much peer pressure influences our underwear as much or more than comfort..
I remember on time the summer after his brother graduated from high school when his older brother was "babysitting" us for a weekend and he had his girlfriend over on Saturday afternoon. He had her in his room making out im sure. we were in my friends room across the hall and he had already said we would have to listen to them slamming the headboard into the wall before they came out.
I remember him coming out by himself and shutting the door behind him (probably didn't want us to see his naked gf) he took his pants off, then his boxers and briefs, then put just the boxers back on then his pants and went back into the room. He left his briefs laying in the hall and you could tell from a distance they were soaked with gooey white stuff.

We have several guys on the team who when they do wear a jockstrap always wear compression shorts over it. Now I do that too if that's all im going to wear, but if im at a match I def do not want anything but my jock and singlet, an extra layer just binds all the wrong places.

I also played a summer on a traveling baseball team and a lot of the guys wore polyester boxer shorts because they had to change into their cups and straps (surprisingly no one on that team wore sliding shorts) in the dugout and a lot of time they had only cage fence backs in them so no privacy at all. They would strip to their boxers and put cup and strap on over the boxer shorts then they changed into their game pants. I went as far a buying a pair of the UA boxers and trying it their way but I hated the looseness before the game so I wore my jock under the boxers then the cup and strap over them. I soon switched to another way I had been told about by a friens older brother--I cut the cup pocket off a cup strap and put the cup in it, then wore a jockstrap and compression shorts, then all I had to do was put the cloth coverd cup inside my regular jock or between the jock and compression shorts.

I think this may be less likely now days, it seems that more guy are comfortable with whatever their underwear choice is and are not ashamed to be seen in anything. while nudity in the lockerroom and showers may never be as prevalent outside of some team sports as they used to be guys are not very ashamed of their underwear anymore and boxers are very rare among the most athletic guys. I don't think we have any guys on the team who wear boxers outside of maybe an occasional date night, hardly ever see any hanging around in the locker room.
Even the younger guys are fairly confident in skimpier underwear now, tight trunks seem to be coming into style as the norm.

I used to see boxer-wearing guys put a cup strap over their boxers and thought it was the weirdest damn thing. Like you, I thought, "Who needs all that scrunching up?" About a year ago I watched a 20-something pull on comp shorts over his boxers in the health club locker room and then spend 3-4 minutes adjusting this boxers down the leg of the comp shorts. Bizarre.
If I understand your description, this is what the NuttyBuddy cup says you should do: wear briefs and a regular, not cup, jock over them, and slide the nutty buddy in the pouch of the jock, which will hold it in place. nuttybuddy.com

I'd like to believe that's the new norm, but I only see boxers in the school locker room.

That is what they advertise at Nutty Buddy. I have had it preached to me tho that if you must wear a jockstrap and compression shorts, then the jock goes on first. Otherwise when your legs move and the crotch of the shorts moves down (thus the inherent problem with compression shorts) it will pull the jock or cup jock down also.
I have one old cup that had foam padding. instead of the more rubbery like most cups today, and it works great for going jock, cup and comp shorts. The newer ones pull the hair and your skin. These newer cups is why I had to cover the cup some way, i.e. by cutting the pouch off a cup jock, thus the cup is covered and you can wear jock first, then compression shorts, then just put the cup between when you need it.

If I ever see a guys wearing compression shorts over boxers I will call him out for the moron he is.

I have tried other ways including commando at time, but always am uncomfortable without my jock.
Worked a regional tournament this weekend and actually saw more jocks on more different teams than I have in a while.
Not a lot, but def more than I have seen in a while.

Let's hope it's a change. I look at wrestling pics a lot and can't ever figure out why a wrestler WOULDN'T wear a jock. If nothing else, he should do it for the audience!

If I have to wear a cup, I ALWAYS ALWAYS wear a regular jock under it. A cup can, ironically, do you harm if you don't pouch up your balls first. Just wearing a cup strap seems dangerous to me. Either I'd have two jocks, or, more often, a sports brief and a cup strap over it, or a reg jock and compression cup shorts over that.
Shock Doc finally had their designers think carefully about cup comp shorts. Usually, the pouch is just kinda flat and the cup edges don't really press against your inner thighs and thus surround your balls. The cup just kinda presses against your thighs. However, the Shock Doc had their manufacturers put in two elastic, jockstrap-style leg bands, only a few inches at the base of the cup pouch, but those to PULL the cup's "point" inward and make it easy to rest your nuts in it. Small design changes make big improvements. I think it might be this:

I have the shock doctor compression shorts with a cup. They fit well and hold the cup in place well. I could not imagine trying to wear underwear under the shorts. They fit tight.
