this is a branch off my first thread
http://www.lpsg.org/136498-erection-concerns.html Cause ppl were reading it for there help and i felt like discussing my issue more in depth..
ok
So like 4 months ago, i went in for testing of low testosterone and it came back normal but my cortisol came back extremely high, and after alot more testing one doc said it is raised through stress, and today on the net i found that cortisol lowers testosterone production..so my mind is thinking is my testosterone low and is that why i cant get full hard cus of stress and that cortisol stuff? ... and what could i do about it?

This is actually something I can tell you from experience. The vast majority of doctors don't understand hormones and replacement therepy. You need to see an actual hormone specialist. Hormones test are HUGELY unreliable. Most hormone imbalance is treated based on ongoing symptoms, not lab test. Lab test are for baseline testing usually.

There are many, many influences to a man's ability to get and stay hard, both physical, hormonal, and psychological *but* at your young age it is no wonder that you are concerned.

Hi cortisol may be an issue and it is a stress hormone but if you had "normal" T *and* high cortisol when you were tested, then it is possible that your *FREE* Testosterone level was not tested and may be low. Go back and look at the results from 4 months ago. Was it *Total* Testosterone that was normal?

STRESS is a normal part of life but how we react and deal with it determines if we can successfully live with it.

From reading from your other thread, you *do* seem extremely stressed out and that is a prime way to get a limp dick. If you typically used JO as a stress reducer it obviously no longer works for you. All that excess stress has to be worked off in contructive ways or you need to change your environment that you identify as causing the stress. Deep down inside you probably know what needs to be done but somehow feel stuck and that causes even more stress.

If you have more blood tests you can post the results (as well as the ranges) here but when I got fed up with the docs and started investigating my hormone levels after I removed all the stress I could, I learned it takes a whole hell of a lot more than just 1 Total T test and 1 Cortisol test and that stress has to be attacked each and every day as a matter of routine. For me, when I get stressed I simply have to get out of where I currently am, and sometimes just walking away for a while eases the stress. The more physical I can be, the more I can do *away* from what I identify as causing the stress, the less stress I have when I can't avoid it.

I hope some of that helps.

contrary to what other people are saying, I would not recommend going on testosterone therapy. Your Avatar says your only 20, so if you start testosterone therapy now, you've got a long miserable road up ahead of you. High cortisol does effect testosterone production, and there are ways to lower it. Although people are skeptical of herbs, let me tell you, a lot of them do work and aren't just bogus. They just don't work in the way some people think they do, i.e. no herb is going to make you gain 2 inches on your cock.

Anyways you might want to look into this but I believe ashwagandha, ginkgo biloba and american ginseng are all known to either lower or regulate cortisol levels.

Also try to relax before going to bed, and make sure your room is very dark.. bright lights will raise cortisol levels at night. And when you are waking up in the morning open up the window in the morning to let some sunlight in, then when you go outside for the first time it's not like your discovering a new planet and throwing off ur cortisol levels

It may be simple anxiety. The more you THINK/WORRY about getting an erection, the more difficult it is for you to do so. It isn't something most of us can simply will.

You have a history of anxiety/depression, if I recall correctly. Just try to relax. Sometimes, we are our own worst enemy. I can't tell you to "just snap out of it." That's not fair and doesn't work.

Someone mentioned exercise. Exercise releases endorphins (a natural high) that brings on a feeling of relaxation and well being.

But, to just sit and dwell on what you perceive to be a problem will do no good and only make it worse. You know, they say the most important sex organ is the BRAIN!
