Well then - **straightens himself in chair**
It's my thread so I guess I can initiate a good hijack.
One question only (oh paragon of discriminatingly good taste);
Do you base your politics solely on fiscally social issues or does the issue of human rights, as it affects
wink: d20) "our kind", weigh into your political disposition?
Wait. I lied. I have another more thread-topical question;
If Ben's dick were profferred you would you suck it?
OK, to start with the topic of the thread before I hijack the thread. If his dick was offered, I'd have to decline it as I am in a relationship with the hottest piece of manflesh on the planet :biggrin1: ! Regardless of what I've seen of Ben so far, he does scream Bottom to me (which isn't a bad thing :tongue: being partial to bottoms myself)
My politics are based on what I've seen from both parties.
I remember growing up in the 70's, dirt poor. We used to have milk by making it from powdered Milkman. Not sure if that product is still around or not. I remember drinking that milk and coming across powder bubbles because it wasn't mixed properly. I knew that THAT was not the way I wanted to live. The 80's came around, along with Reagan, and our finances sky rocketed. So, financially, I am very Republican oriented.
When it comes to Social issues, I used to think that the Democrats are where we should be, but I've been getting more and more disgusted with what I have been seeing. I'm firmly of the mind that the Democratic party (big D) is more interested in giving rights and benefits to illegal aliens and allowing American citizens to suffer, where as the Republican party (big R) was content to allow the illegals to come in while at the same time denying them any kinds of benefits.
Now, with the focus on illegal aliens (thanks to Right Wing Radio), the Republicans are stepping up to the plate to take care of it. I do not think we would get any type of illegal alien reform if the House and Senate were not in held by Republicans. When we have seen evidence that the Democratic party is actively allowing and ENCOURAGING illegals to vote, the Democratic party no longer represents Americans. It represents foriegn interests.
Now, it's not all peaches and cream with the Republican. With the failed Constitutional Amendment defining what marriage should be, Republicans came out with a black eye. But in all honesty, I knew, down to my soul, that the amendment would fail. Regardless of how right wing the country seems to be leaning, no one can stomach a Constitution that guarentees equality to all except ________ fill in the blank.
So when it comes to social issues, the Republicans can be progressive. It just takes time. And, lest we all forget, it was Lincoln, a Republican, that freed the slaves. The Solid South was built upon Democrats, not Republicans. So, historically, Republicans were among the first to fight for Civil Rights.
On a personal note, I'd like people to step back from all the political doggery that is going around. I've toyed with the idea of running for some kind of local office as a gay republican only to have very good friends come out and say that they would not vote for me BECAUSE I am a republican. Regardless of the fact that these are men and women who have known me for years and actually AGREE with me on a lot of issues.
All they see is the big R of the party, not the MAN who can work within the party to change it.
People need to get beyond party affiliation and look at the PEOPLE running, not the party itself.
OK, got to go, lunch is calling.
Hope this answers some of your questions, I'd be glad to answer more.
Always willing to chat,
