As I've aged I really struggle to keep that body I want to have. I really enjoy working but just not able to get back to where I was 5 years ago in weight. I gained a bit due to a thyroid issue that I"m not taking stuff for, but taking off the 15 or so pounds I put on is not easy. I remember the days when I would just drop 5 to 8 pounds in a week or two easily by doing a simple calorie deficient.
This week I started back calculating macros to make sure I'm on that good healthy eating trend. Boy sure wish I could be 30 again and not have to work so so hard.

Happens to all of us. I know no matter how hard I workout, I will never have the same body I had in my 20s. Slowing metabolism, diminishing muscle mass, etc, etc. You just have to accept the way you are now. We all tend to think that the body we have in our 20s we will have forever, but it's a loaner not a keeper. I used to think the same way when I was younger. I talk to young guys at my gym that honestly believe they will still have the same stunning body they have today for the rest of their lives. They will soon find out. Around 30 years old, everything changes.

This doesn't mean to completely give up and let yourself go. I lost 40 pounds years ago, and I'm much healthier for it. I started to put on weight again about a year ago (10-15 pounds not 40 again). I realized that I was incredibly bored and uninspired by my workouts, so I really wasn't getting much out of them. I decided to give some fitness classes a try to shake things up, and it was the best thing I could have ever done. I love my fitness classes! I go to 3 a week now. They are a lot of fun, and I have started to lose weight again! Some of my clothes I have had taken in, and I have gone from snug to loose fitting shirts and pants. I've even had to go down a notch in my belt. I'm careful with my diet, but not so super strict that I can't have things I enjoy. To me it's all about balance and acceptance. Best of luck to you!

I've decided to try and buy a Peloton Bike for home. I think it will give me that lift I need to make my workouts harder. I know I don't work out near as hard as I did 5 - 10 years ago. Just don't have that motivation that I use to have. I love to bike, but time and work keep me off that so much. Figure why not try that for a change.

Good idea if you have the discipline to do it at home. I know I don’t. I need that gym environment to get motivated. I always see guys I’ve gotten to know there, so it’s a social thing for me as well. I also enjoy using the steam room after a workout and taking a long hot shower.

Spin is excellent exercise. I do a spin class every week, and I’m convinced it’s mostly responsible for my current weight loss. By the end of class, my towel is absolutely soaked in sweat, and I’m beat from it.

I have a very different perspective on aging and fitness:

I didn't start working out until I was 50; now, 18 years later, I weigh 40# more than my skinny self in my 20s and 30s but it's muscle. I am in much better shape physically now than when I was then.
Nutrition, weights, yoga and consistency!

I've always been able to workout at home. Built my house with a home gym in mind. I do gym everyday as well during my lunch my work has a gym. So I go lift during lunch, but I don't socialize in gym. I keep to myself always have.

Good to hear look forward to spin

Why aren't you taking anything for your thyroid issue? I've got an under active thyroid. If I don't take my medication my hair starts falling out and very low energy.

Yeah, do pay attention to T levels!
I had Hashimoto's Syndrome, which meant sometimes underactive thyroid, but sometimes overactive. And then, it started growing so that swallowing food became more difficult. There were several biopsies, and eventually I opted for a thyroidectomy 4 years ago. If I don't take my Levoxl I become just a puddle on the floor....and I'm bald.

Monitor your caloric intake and just train 4x a week.

It's great that you're not giving up the fight to reach your goal! It's really important to find something that keeps you motivated, and when you see the progress in your body it only fuels you further.

You know what. I miss typed that. I am taking levothyroxine. I did have issues with low energy before getting on it. Been on it now for about 5 months.

100%...I didn't start til my 50s either..I've put on close to 50lbs in muscle in 5 years. One of the key things is to drink a LOT of water and cut out alcohol.

I was started on levothyroxine 25 mcg, now I take 88 mcg. Take it at the same time every day. While I do struggle with not having enough energy, I've noticed that the more intense my workout is the more energy I have throughout the day.

I try to get at least 8 hours of good quality sleep a night. Total darkness in the house. No tv no phone. I sleep so much better like that and feel much more rested when I wake at 3am. Head to the gym and start my workout.

I've also noticed that if i don't do a full body workout I don't have as much energy throughout the day. Don't ask me why? It just seems to be the case with me.

I started at 50mcg not at 100mcg. very true taking at the same time everyday is key, I take mine right before I leave for work in the mornings. I workout hard and are about to get a great pump.... like I said before I have to just make myself because 15 mins into it I'm yawning and fighting sleep lol. also have low test and sleep apnea which all 3 mimic the same symptoms
