Subtly calling attention to your body in the middle of otherwise non-sexual debates

I noticed that recently in one of the politics threads, someone said something like "And huge props to [female poster X], and not just for her hot pics!"

And not just, eh?

You don't very often see stuff like "Wow great points man, you really are more than a big cock!"

How is this kind of stuff received, on your end? This is a largely sexual site, so perhaps it's not quite as inflammatory and offensive as it would possibly be in other settings. Appreciating rockin' bodies is a big part of what goes on here. But just on the level of pure engagement, does this kind of comment make you less likely to engage in the debate/thread? Does it make you feel less welcome? Do you find that it happens often around here? Or does it not bother you at all? I'm feeling decently bitchy today, so maybe I'm just reaching for reasons to be an arse about things. But it did seem like the kind of "below the surface" unintentional dig that could make a woman feel less welcome in a thread or sub-forum, even perhaps without anyone initially realizing what happened.

What do you think?

Being treated as less than a human being is pretty normal around here. Did you just notice this now?

No, not noticing it just now. I'd say it's one of the main reasons why the explicitly sexual threads in this forum are unbearable now. I like the occasional thread in the "relationships" area, but the rest is . . . meh.

I haven't really thought much about how this goes down on the non-sexual parts of this site, however. Looking at that statement I realized that the politics boards seems generally pretty dude-centric, and I was wondering to what degree things like this contribute to that. I noticed that one statement on a second pass through the thread, but I don't really have a feel for how often similar statements may pop up in similar threads.

Does the politics board (and I guess the Etc. section) approach the level of feeling actively hostile? Is it a sort of gut-level uneasiness and sense of being unwelcome? Or is there not a sense of being unwelcome at all, but rather a lack of interest in the way conversation plays out in those threads? Or is there some completely different feeling to it?

Anyway, thanks for the reply Patchos.

Politics here is one big circlejerk just another place for guys to compare dick size

I wouldn't really disagree with that.

For what it's worth, I'd love to read your takes on political stuff, if you ever felt like giving that subforum another chance. You are one of my favorite posters here, and that subforum could use more quality posts.

I couldn't care less whether I'm "welcome" or not. My opinion is no more or less valid because of my tits. I *do* think that comments like that are fucking ridiculous, though, despite this being a sexual site. If you want to compliment a woman on her photos separately, by all means, do that... but if she's in an intellectual conversation? Absolutely not. My general rule of thumb is... if you wouldn't behave that way in public, you shouldn't behave that way online. If I had been in playboy but you met me at a city council meeting and I was voicing an intelligent opinion on the issue at hand... I hardly think that anyone would have the audacity to stand up and say "Snarky, I commend you on your well thought out argument. Nice tits by the way... I caught the November issue... That pussy looks bangin!". Seriously, guys? Fuck right off with all that.

Yes, it's insulting. It's annoying. It's part of the reason I so enjoy objectifying men (in the chat room I mean). Some of the guys around here treat us like hoochies, I feel that it's only fair to treat THEM the same way :) :) :)

After I had breast reduction surgery my friend told me that my IQ had just gone up 20 points, and if I dyed my hair I would be a genius. Perception can be so misleading, but I try to use it to my advantage when I can.
