I know a few of our members live in year round warm weather; but many of us suffer through the winter months
So, just checking to see what you are doing. Or will be doing for the next 2 months .

Staying inside as much as I can. Went for my usual walk yesterday, but had to leave my dogs behind because the pavement was too hot. By the time I got to the swamp, it felt like I was trying to breathe water. I was going to try driving my bike over there and having a ride in the shade by the water, but no. It's even hotter today.

Meanwhile, my dining room floor is almost finished. Just need to sand and paint the baseboards and quarter round. Next up, refacing my brick fireplace with stone tile.

It is winter or The Dry Season as it is known.
The only time of the year I have a hope in hell of growing European vegetables and slicer / heirloom tomatoes.
I will ( with a lot of help) will be putting in another crop of dwarf beans and broccoli to freeze for the Summer/Wet Season.
I already have my sweet potato slips planted out in their feild.
My Irish potatoes are flowering so it will be time to harvest them soon.

I should add that the walk normally takes me 45 minutes to an hour. When without my dogs, I go all the way to the swamp's edge by circumnavigation of the park. This should add 15 to 20 minutes max. It was 90 minutes roundtrip. So. Freaking. Hot. I was drenched and uncomfortable, even under a parasol. Gnats and small flying insects kept landing on me and dying. My clothes were completely soaked through when I got home, as if I had run through a sprinkler. I wish I had. I drank 125 ounces of water during my walk, and I was thirsty when I got home. My dogs were sad about missing their walk. They have too much obnoxious energy today. But they cannot be on the pavement, and I won't even let them into the yard more than a few minutes. This is not nice weather.

The next few few days will be sweltering here, so I feel you and your good call to say inside when you can. Too many people drag their pets out on urban hot days, forgetting that they have on sneakers, while their pets are walking on the pavement.

Sounds like the Dining room is well underway; and good for you I bet it will be Awsum when it is finished . My fire place is natural stone; but I bet yours will put mine to shame once done

Sounds like you have a proper, productive ; and prosperous UK garden this season. Not that I have time; but I would love to have a little garden; but I have groundhogs, rabbits, squirrels, Deer that can jump over a 5 foot fence and the occasional bear .You enjoy your healthy harvest

You need one of those new treadmills with the TV screens in front of them, to simulate being outside . So you can get your steps in without the flying insects or the sun. Well, only 1 1/2 months more to go

Actually I am based in the Northern part of Australia and as far away from my horrid family as possible.
Cassowary raid the gardens and are extremely dangerous.
Kangaroos jump as high as deer and are just as destructive.
We have feral deer and feral pig populations here as well.
We are lucky in this state because deer are a declared noxtious pest and there isn't a closed season on them.
I can cull any class of deer at any time of the year.
Native and highly protected bush turkeys rip up the garden faster than a whole flock of chickens.
Wallaby, hare and rabbits add to the variety of smaller garden raiders.

Tall eletric fences, electric poultry netting and row covers go a longvway towards getting any harvest at all.

Sorry for the Geographic Mix up . I admit you have a lot more pests to deal with than I do here. You are a tough lady, sorry you live so far way. When the Zombie apocalypse happens, and it will. You would make a great addition to my community. So far I have Altered Ego and La Femme , as candidates

My summers aren't usually very noteworthy... I live on a lake, so my summers capitalize on boating and other water activities. I have lots of company, host plenty of parties, etc. I don't go too far. Local concerts/sports/activities after a day on the lake. All of this is fun, but not super exciting. I wouldn't trade it. I often make a good vacation trip in the fall... except when I've had home or pet expenses like the past 2 years... so I'm really, REALLY ready for a "real" vacation.

Your everyday life is a vacation to others. I call the State of NC, my second home, only we have no lakes only farm land and trees.I almost purchased a house on a lake in NY; but was outbid. NC is a great stats as you can vacation at the shore / Mid state or the mountains. I have a pet that travels with me, he hates the Kennel; and I hate the expends of paying for it.

The 2 things I envy most about NC are Bojangles and HArdee's restaurants, as they do not operate in NY .

Getting home sick
